Hi I'm new here and not sure if I've posted in the correct section.
anyway I'm new to overclocking and recently overclocked my phenom II x4 805 to 3.0ghz. Using a multiplier of 12.5 and fsb of 240. My question is regarding voltages, I've got the cpu voltage set to 1.2500v, I haven't touched anything else (with regards to voltages, memory timings) in the bios. Do other voltages need to be changed, I've got them set to auto. I've also been using prime95 to test the stability, is this the best program to use? One last thing, is 3.0ghz the best I can hope for on my cpu (the stock is 2.5ghz)? Thanks in advance

First, no. You should be able to hit about 3.2-3.4 with stock volts. As long as you don't max out your northbridge or memory or hypertransport frequencies the auto voltages will be fine. The northbridge and ht will take a modest increase without having to bump the volts. Your memory will probably not unless you mess with the timings.
Prime95 is one of the best stress/stability programs out there, some love it some hate it. I use it for all my oc's. Other programs are super pi, or sandra. They work well but I, personally, don't think that they stress the system as much as prime95. You should be able to get a few hours out of prime; some guys run it 12-24 hours just to say it was rock solid stable, but I run it 2-6 hours. I think anything more is overkill. Who uses their computers 6 hours straight under a full load? Anyway hope that helps. check out these guides. Logan and topdog really explain things well for newbies. http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...ing-guide.html http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/28...ing-guide.html

Thanks for the reply.
__________________Much appreciated. (I'll take a look at those links) I've tired hitting 3.2ghz, I can boot up fine but when I run prime95 after a few minutes one of the workers stops and I get an error message. I've tried increasing the cpu voltage but the same thing keeps happening. It's always the same worker (core) that keeps stopping.

Like For$saken said, you can get a bit higher OC with the stock 1.25v voltages. But anything higher than that with stock volts, you will get an unstable system. An unstable system can include windows not booting (ie. stuck on POST), windows crashing, BSOD etc...
That is why you have to increase the voltage to test stability. Just be careful, if you increase too much, you can damage your components! That is why you should take it easy and up the voltage in small increments. Then just rinse and repeat until you get a stable OC. Also, make sure you have set your RAM to run on the speeds it was meant to! You normally have to manually set the timings.

It is very difficult to say which timings those sticks should run at...since it was from an Acer computer and seems to be somewhat older...
Are there any marks on the sticks themselves? Sometimes the timings are written on the sticks...

I've tried overclocking to 3.2 and prime keeps failing. I'm not sure what to adjust. So far all I've changed is the fsb which is set to 240, with a multiplier of 12.5. When I set the fsb to 256 with the multiplier at 12.5 (equal 3.2ghz) I upped the cpuvoltage to 1.3500 and everything else was set to auto. I've read the links but I'm still as confused as I was before. On my ht etc it isn't multipliers, it's frequencies. So as I didn't know what to set it too I've left it to auto. I'm not sure if right now my cpu won't overclock higher or whether it's me and there is a way of pushing a little bit more out of it.

Right I've downloaded everest, found the timings and gone into the bios, however I'm still unsure where to put everything.
I've uploaded some pics in the hope that it helps.
