Is the 146 a better way to go because of the 10x muli, or the 148 with the 11x because it seems people can still get the same overclocks with either

hey guys just my experience with the opteron with my setup (a8v deluxe, oczplatrev2) the 148 opti i had (before i killed the thing) prob the bestcore i could of gotten at the time for the money (anyways) it was as follows
CABYE 0528GPWM and i was able to get it to 3.1 ghz on water- it would do pi 32m- my benches are in the bench mark top 10 for this little guy,

so when i had the money i got a opti 170 its a CCBWE 0534SPWM, so far has done prime running 2 of them one on each core for 12 hours at 2.7ghz (stock 2.0ghz)- i havnt had much time to experiment but right now its running at 2.8ghz and runs pi but havnt done the dual prime yet

just my experiences with the opti so far

That'll depend on your RAM. If you got some BH-5 or VX then I'd say get the higher multi. TCCD or anything else that gets high FSB should be cool with a 10x.

What about the RAM I have now? Im planning on keeping it for the opteron. Its 2x512 geil DDR500. Should i go with the higher multi?

Not knowing what the max is I'd think 11x would be cool. 250 FSB x 11 = 2750MHz and I'm pretty sure you can OC your RAM further than the advertised speed. So anything over 250x11 sounds like a pretty good OC to me.

btw, who's got 146s in stock right now? I don't wanna buy a used one on ebay IYKWIM.

Does anyone have any word on the Opteron 144? They're in stock pretty cheap on Tigerdirect, and they seem to be the Opty equivalent of a 3000+ venice. I only see people with the 146 and 148's though. Are the 144's nice too?

The 144 will be nice if you get the G. Skill you're mentioning in your sig. TCCD hits over 300 FSB so a 9x multi isn't a bad thing.

edit: so there's no downside to these CPUs right? Meaning, they still rock at gaming?

Zer0sniper is trying to convince me to get the G.SKILL BH-5, but now that you said that, I think I might just stick with the TCCD.

not that i have scene, i went from my 3500+ newcastle running at 2.5 to these guys and the difference was very noticible
