Ok, so, I got my 955be stable at 3.8ghz, since I got it, on a measly 1.375vcore, that's very good. Going for 3.9, it takes 1.5v, BUT, my temps are bothering me. I got Prime95 to complete all the way thru test 10 stable before I stopped it. Chip gets to 61-62C avg, dabbling in the 63-64C range here and there, but it takes til Test 7 or so to get there. Upon stopping Prime95, the temps don't shoot down like I'm used to, but they kind of linger, and slowly drop. Chip has been like this since I got it, and I've reseated, completely cleaning paste and re-applying 3 times. I'm going for 4Ghz, because I got a good feeling this chip is gonna love 1.5vcore for 4ghz as long as I can get some decent cooling. I currently have a Xigmatek S1283, and the fan is 87% or w/e the option is on my GD-70. The thing I don't like is the horizontal mounting of the AM3 socket. I THOUGHT I heard of a AM3 bracket that re-positioned the mounting system to allow hsf like mine to mount vertical, and I got a feeling this would help. Thing is, IDK where to get one, IF they make them. I think its the fan setup in my rig too, but I follow the pretty generic way of doing it. I got the 120mm in rear for exhaust, 120mm in side for intake, a second 80mm modded into side for intake, more directed at RAM, 120mm in front for HDD intake, and the 120mm PSU fan for exhaust. There's only one spot left to mount a fan, and its the bottom 80mm in the floor of the case for intake, but I don't see that helping any, maybe for GPU. IF I can get the chip stable under Prime95 loads at less than 65C at 4ghz, would this be acceptable for the chip? Since Prime95 loads aren't real world loads?
One last question? Is it a sign of a dying CPU when the thread aren't in time with each other? This chip is brand new, barely stressed yet, and by test 3 the threads are a second off of each other. Thanks!

Keep it under 62c and you will be fine. 64c is fine for some vantage run's ect, but not recommend for daily use. Go back to 3.8ghz for daily use. Good Luck!

I'm trying to get 4ghz daily, and under real world apps, the chip shouldn't get anywhere near 60C+. I'm at 4ghz now, and its all good, but I'm not playing a game, or anything that requires load.

hey techboy,
__________________just wondering, i used to read somewhere that running em up to 70oC (obviously not recommended) was alright for amd chips? how come 64 would be your recommended limit? is this from amd?

3.8 on air seems to be the top when it comes to air cooling regarding the X4 955. When one or two cores are dlagging behind, it's normal and nothing to worry about, my son's 955 has the same "problem" 65c seems to be about in safe limit of the chip's thermal treshold. If you want to take it to 4 Ghz i suggest watercooling instead of air.

See that weird, cause a friend of mine is at 4ghz on stock cooling, but he's probably got sweet air flow. That's a concern of mine. Should I test 4 ghz with a box fan blowing in the side of my case for air flow just to see if it will be stable? lol I can't afford water cooling or a new case just yet. Im at 3.9 stable right now, 1.475v, and it seems alright.

Sweet! Max temp under prime95 load is 58C since I switched cpu fan from cpu port to a sys port. Bios wont push cpu fan port past 87% speed, and now its 100%, and doing great!

I like mine in the negatives.
![]() When I had the stock HSF on this chip, it didnt like temps above 50c not sure if that means anything to you.
