Hi everyone..I just recently got my new MB(Sig rig) and I'm a Noob overclocker. My old Motherboard made it very simple to overclock but I'm kinda lost with this one.
I set the multiplier to 17.5 and I'm lost what to do from there because the rest of the stuff is all set to Auto..I'm not sure what to do from here onwards? With it set to Auto and I run Vantage, I get to about the 3rd test and I crash and restart. Can you guys please help me find a stable clock? Sigh for being a noob.

I suggest you read this whole guide...

The 955 will probably cap out at like 3.8ghz but it definetely has the potential to get to 4ghz and you've got a NICE board there. If you're just looking for something modest and fast I'd go with raising the NB to 2.2ghz, CPU multiplier to 18x (3.6ghz), raising the voltage to about 1.3-1.4| NB voltage by a click and maybe HT to 2ghz. These are just my personal preferences.... 3.5-3.6 is my comfy zone. Edit: I'm not sure how good that cooling is but if you don't pass like 55c on full load after a decent amount of time in prime95 then you should be alright.

It shouldn't be too bad with a black edition CPU. Just find voltage control somewhere in your bios and set it accordingly. Give a slight bump to the NB/CPU-NB and then up your CPU voltage to whatever you feel comfortable at. You should be good up to 1.55v for 24/7 (assuming cooling is good.) Set the CPU multi at what you want, and test for stability.
Then you can always overclock your NB frequency

The simplest form of overclocking is to just use the cpu multiplier. However you may get more out of it by pushing the fsb (cpu-freq) and thats where you'll have to start adjusting other settings. Make sure you set your ram timmings and voltage also.

You should try these settings, put 1.28v for NB Voltage and HT Voltage, CPU/NB Voltage to 1.35v and CPU Voltage ~1.5v (if you cooler can keep cpu under 60c under prime. CPU/NB Multi to 13 (For now) and raise CPU Multi until systems gets unstable, when it does, back up a little or try to give some meer CPU Voltage (ONLY if your temps are under 60c under prime. Keep raising CPU Voltage until your temps under prime are max ~60c. When you get your CPU to it's limits, try if you can get CPU/NB to 2,8GHz by raising CPU/NB Multiplier to 14. If system get's unstable, give some more CPU/NB Voltage. Keep raising it until you reach 1.4v if needed. With those settings i got my 955BE oc'd to 3,8GHz CPU and 2,8GHz CPU/NB. Good luck!

Including 965BE C3-stepping for testing purposes. But i must say that 200MHz more NB speed is better for daily use than 100MHz more CPU Speed, cause systems runs way more faster with higher NB, cause it speedup memory r/w and latensys. Take this as advice, you dont have to try getting those speed's but i must say it's worth to try.
