I may not use a mega on an Athlon II, but Id definitely be using a high performance cooler if i bought aftermarket for any CPU. Ive never had a CPU die from heat, but my stock 775 cooker was at 89C with a light load on my P4 (before i cleaned 5yrs of dust) which is why Id go high performance even if it isnt completely necessary.

So like yeah, prime95 stayed on just fine on maximum (or whatever that big FFT mode is) for 17 hours. I'm calling it stable and will begin tweaking memory later.

Update:

Cranked the memory divider to 6.66 from 5.33, and accidentally booted straight into XP instead of memtest86+ cause I forgot the floppy in the drive

The speed is thus DDR3-1600 (ish) and timings are 9-9-9-30 right now, and XP didn't crash. Amazing.

Rebooted, now in memtest86+ 4.00; we'll see how they roll.

I have been able to overclock my ram really easily myself. I am still trying to see how fast I can get my processor before I start moving to the ram. I have been able to get to 3.2, but I added a 4870 video card that really heats up my PC.

Geez this RAM is lovely. Cranked along fine, 8 passes with memtest86+ no errors. That's two of my sticks at 1333 running at 1600

Tweaking memory timings now as we speak. EDIT: Has passed one test at 8-8-8-24. Woohoo!

While I hunt for a Windows based memory tester here's some results for y'all (under XP 32 bit - I'll be putting Vista on later so I can do a Vantage test)

Any heatsink that requires me to remove the motherboard is a no go.

More benches, whee... Have 5.9s across the board on Vista and a Vantage score for y'all.

Hmm, a note on the USB thing; Looks like some RAM voltage tweaks are in order, maybe? How about the North Bridge, as well?

Hey !

I've been following this thread quite activly in the background and have some questions, but first congrats with your overclock Quantum Reality !
The reason I've been following this topic, is that I've ordered the same CPU (c'mon at 89$ for a quad core CPU, it's a real bargain ).
Anyway, I also want to overclock this baby to 3.2Ghz at stock voltages (just crack up the FSB to 250, right ?). However I don't want to overclock anything else, like ram and stuff.
Do you think I can leave my RAM untouched at stock speeds/voltages ?
My specs are as following:
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 620 (Duh)
MoBo: Asus M4A785D-M PRO, AM3, 785G, 4xDDR2, HDMI,
VGA: Club 3D Radeon HD5750 1GB
RAM: Kingston ValueRAM KVR800D2N6K2/4G 4GB(2x2) DDR2 800MHz C6
CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper TX3

Thanks !
