Alright, my system arrived, assembled it and am now overclocking it ![]() My RAM seems to be the bottleneck at the moment. I would like to keep everything at stock voltages, but my RAM doesn't keep up around 240-245 FSB at DDR2 800 Speeds.. My stock RAM voltage is 1.8V and I don't know how much I can 'safely' overvolt it... I'll try the smallest possible increasement. Currently I have it running stable at 3.0Ghz (231*13) with all stock voltages (ram at DDR2 667 speed: 462Mhz*2). HyperLink and Transport is 9x so it's around 2GHZ

![]() ! Thermalpaste sucks big time, looked like gum, and applying it to your mobo is real rocket science... the illustrations were so damn small I almost needed to take out my magnifing glasses. It's real quiet though. Can't hear it running at idle at all, at full load just a little bit louder than my casefan...

I decided to buy a generic Rocketfish cooler at Best Buy this morning. I am now running at 3.4Ghz 262 x13.0 and temps are 32C idle, 51C load.

I actually am using DDR3 not DDR2. So my RAM is running at 1333, CAS 7. Translated to DDR2 this would be like CAS 3-ish DDR2-667, which would be a smidge faster than the usual. *shrug* I'm not complaining.
![]() Good luck y'all with your Athlon II X4 overclocks! ETA: Oh, I bought a Scythe Ninja Mini LP. Came with a fan and the works, so I'll be installing it this weekend to see how temperatures fare compared to the stock TIM + HSF.

Update:
Scythe Ninja Mini is on. What an adventure! I had to move the clips up by one notch because I was worried that the pressure would break off the AM3 plastic retention notches. Then clipping the fan on turned out to be v. amusing. The fan WOULD fit over the RAM modules but no way am I putting a plastic fan over memory modules that are gonna get warm. Maybe when I move to 2 x 4 gig or something. As it is the fan is clipped on nice and snugly, and I'm Prime95ing away. After ~10 minutes to reach steady-state my new temps are 39 C at the cores and 46 C in the BIOS. Not bad for a 5-7 degree C drop, I'd say, especially as I'm pants at putting the right amount of heatsink compound on the CPU every time and I had a devil of a time getting the clips on while the mobo was still inside the case. Pics attached!

hmm, doesn't look like the best place to put a fan, is that rear fan an intake or exhaust? if it's an intake, put the fan on the back side of the heatsink (bad news since it's kinda a pain), then the air will pull from outside the case instead of through that 3mm it has between the fan and your video card. just a thought.
