ok,ive been playing with this processor for a couple of weeks now. it took me 1.5v to get to 3.5,which from what i sen isnt that bad.
__________________now i have decided to unlock it again.im running it at 16x multiplier and 1.35v,which gives me 3.2.top heat ive seen was 43c on prime which has been running for about 25 minutes now. my question is ,why is it easier to oc it x4 than x3?is it possible it will preform better as an x4?

you're only at 3.2ghz, that's no big deal on a deneb. Try punching it to 3.5 like that and see what happens.

I'm actually wondering the same thing.
I've read that the 720 OC's bad on 3 cores, but better on 4 cores. It's the same thing with my 550BE, at 4ghz i wasnt stable with 2 cores, but im stable at 3.8ghz with 4 cores with just 0.25 more voltage.

Usually the 720 overclocks better with 3 cores, simply because the last core is usually disabled due to it being unstable. But if your 720 unlocks AND overclocks better with four cores, then you have the best of both worlds

I ran into the same thing with my 720BE. OC'd easily to 3.4 using 1.425v and temps never go above 45*. Went back to 3 cores and going up to 3.4 required more voltage and ran quite a bit hotter. So, I decided to stick with 4 cores. I haven't tried going any higher, yet.

by default/ theory it should oc better on 3 cores..cus..less cores=less heat=less stress on the IMC. i can get 3.8 x3, vs. 3.64 on x4... but since im not gonna notice any gains between the 2..ofcourse ill stick to x4..just to have another core ^ ^

ok,all is well.running at 1.475v and 3.4.prime is still running smooth.im seeing 49c as the highest temp right now.so i guess saturday ill see what 1.5v will do.pretty sure ill have to mess with fsb,or nb.but thats part of the fun.all else fails ill drop the multiplier and jack up the fsb and the try the multiplier.

I can hit 3.2GHz @ 1.375 with 4 cores. That is what I am using now. I have posted higher in windows, but eventually it crashes. I will try pushing the voltage to 1.5 which I havent doen yet to see what I can manage.
