Default Question about AMD Unlocking

Well I was thinking of getting the GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H motherboard and I was wondering what AMD CPUs can be unlocked with this motherboard.

The only one I know of is the AMD Sempron 140 -> AMD Athlon X2 240.
(And yes I know unlocking is only a possibility.)

It was AMD SB710 which can unlock. Off the top of my head:

Core unlock:
140, 710, 720, 545, 550, 5000+ (newer one not the older one)

L3 unlock:
810, 620, 630

Yeah I know that the motherboard must have Southbridge 710 or 750 which has Advance Clock Calibration.

And do you know if any Athlon X2's unlock or is that only unlocking the L3 Cache?

That or would it be better to get a different Motherboard and OC a CPU?
If so which ones can be OC'd fairly well with stock cooling?
The case I have for a simple build has a 90mm Lower front intake front, 90mm exhaust fan, and 2 x 120mm side case fans. I might switch out the 90mm for 120mm as well.

Athlon X2s should only be able to unlock the L3 on early batches.
Stock cooling huh? That's going to be your limit...it's too hard to say which one will OC well because each processor is different. That mobo seems fine, but you may want to let us know your budget.

Basically, anything that isn't a full blown Phenom II quad core has a chance to either unlock the L3 cache, or an extra core or two.

Well at the moment I'm just trying to find out what would be the best thing to do. Let's just say a as far as $300 for now for the Motherboard and CPU related items.

I was thinking of choosing one of the following...
  • AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz AM3
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200 Brisbane 2.7GHz AM2
  • AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 2.9GHz AM3
What I want to know is what Motherboard should I get if I want to OC?
And what would my Max OCs be with Stock Cooling and with a specific cooling device? (Bigger heatsinks, etc)

If you need a budget to make your choices more easier I would say something around $200.

Old generation Athlon's suck, You shouldn't even be CONSIDERING one. The Athlon II X2's rape them.
