I hate to be so blunt about it, but it just gets disheartening (if thats even a word).

I think the Phenom II are pretty good! They pretty much compete with the core2 series right? If I was building a new system, a 965BE would be a pretty appealing choice.

Appealing choice IMO just because it is AMD and I have stuck by them through thick and thin, until you look at the price difference of a better overclocking and overall performing i5 system for about the same cost and then weigh your options.

I'm having the same thoughts on weather to stay AMD or go intel. I've only done AMD and liked the performance and value, but now that I'm situating myself for an upgrade, I find myself looking for something that will hands down annihilate presently and still hold its own in a year and a half or two and a half years from when I upgrade. From reading previous posts I'm starting to understand the role that AMD plays. It's a good but then again its not the best.

Same here. I really wanted to like AMD. In fact, my past 5 systems have been AMD after my Q6600 and E8400 systems, 2 of which were Phenom II X4. But I've always been distinctly disappointed with their performance and, TBH, still preferred my Q6600 even to my Phenom II 945 @ 4GHz (I got a golden one). It's only a TAD (and I mean an arguable TAD) slower than the Phenom II X4 940, and quite a bit faster than it in benchies like Super Pi where it continues to blow 4GHz AMD chips away.

Because Super Pi is the sole reason to purchase a CPU, amirite?

If you want the best, go i7; have a good time. No need to post in threads like this stating the obvious and QQ'ing.

I actually love AMD's current CPU's. I'm a real tight wad and will likely never even purchase a CPU that cost more than a $100-$125, that's not gonna get me much from Intel.

Why are you not happy with your PhenomII? I have owned both and can honestly say I do not notice a difference except for encoding/decoding times. The only real draw for me was the x58 chipset which can utilize SLI/CF.

IMO I believe we are at a point where hardware is far ahead of the demands of everyday tasks. This is so unlike past years(P4/Anthlon 64 and earlier)
