I think it won't make any impact in the enthusiast market. The CPU is just too slow if it is running on the same architecture as Phenom II. Thuban is already outdated.. heh.
I'm sure that most people who require powerful CPU's would choose the i7 over Thuban any day.

Historically, would this kind of product actually be considered enough, by big corporations, to initiate competitive pricing?

I guess history may not inform us that well here, because there have not really been products like these before (cpu with over 4 physical cores). Right? Or is it the same difference, as other high end products, in the past?

Considering most games don't utilize even 4 core CPUs(to full potential) I see no reason to upgrade.

You could multi-task like a freak though. I can't imagine OCing that would be easy though.
