Hey guys, just in case some of you guys are over on extremeoverclocking.com, I am posting this here as well, just so that I can get as much helpful feedback as possible. Thanks!
__________________First off, I'm totally new to the overclocking thing. I just bought a Phenom II x2 545 with an Asus 785 MB. Well for starters, it seems that I have the one "dud" that can unlock all the other cores. My guess is that I have a failed Quad that's officially a dual only... Does that make sense? I've tried enabling ACC to "auto" but I can't seem to get the other cores unlocked. As of right now, a simple overclocking has netted me 3.17ghz, which I know is like nothing. The only thing I've really touched in BIOS was the CPU/HT Reference Clock changing it from 200-211. Also, I bought DDR2 1066 memory, however the MB picks it up as 800. Now, I know that I can go into BIOS and change it manually, which I have tried. I would change it to 533, but it seems that Windows XP SP3 doesnt like to boot up for some reason. Is there something else I have to do here? Do I have to change the voltage on the RAM? I installed CPU-Z to get a better look at the whole picture. Right now Core Speed: 3165 mhz Bus speed 211 mhz HT Link 2110 mhz Core Voltage: 1.3v Memory timings: 5-5-5-18-24-2t Memory Voltage: 1.8v DDR2 DRAM Freq: 422 mhz (I think as a result of increasing the CPU/HT reference clock) FSBRAM ratio: 1:2 Sorry for being such a newb. I've tried reading the How-to-overclock threads, but all of the information is too technical to me. If there is anyone who can give me an easier explanation as to what values I should be inputting and what not, that would be great. I'd like to get this guy running well. Oh here's another little tidbit, I'm still using an older HD that uses an IDE connection.. could this possibly be of hinderance? Thanks in advance!

hi,
__________________![]() running 533/1066 strap will brings you above the ram spec if you overclocking through HT/Busclock, you should use 800 strap so when you set 211 on bus the ram will go 422/844 (cpuz) heres you can try,.. set bus to 250 and multi to 14 (3.5Ghz) also brings down HT multi x8 and x9 for nb, set ram at 800 in bios (it will go 500/ddr2 1000) with 1.9v, give it as much as 1.3 - 1.35v vcore and you set to go, if it boots then better to check stability with prime95 blend (least 1 hour) or linx 20 passes for a start, then you could try to lower vcore if possible g'luck flo

Ok I'm going to try what you suggested.. I haven't done it just this instant, but I just want to mention that the CPU's multiplier is locked. I dont have the Black edition.

I run now on 3,75GHz with 1.280V . Try this settings : CPU Multi : Auto NB Multi :10x HTT Multi : 8x RAM : 800MHz (4x) RAM Timing : Auto RAM Volt. : 1.95V NB Volt : 1.20V CPU-NB Volt. : 1.25V CPU Volt. : -0,25V or Normal all other setting on Auto, its deppendin on your MB too. I have GB, i dont knou yours MB settings possibility. , since you use only 1.28v i can imagine pushing it to at least 4.0ghz with easehappy tweaking flo

are any of you guys familiar with the overclock features in the Asus motherboards?
__________________If you do, that would be great help.. I tried setting up the values the way you suggested, but I had not much luck with it. Thanks for the help

Memory timings are difficult, but this is important. tRFC if wrong can cause instabilities, and most of the times isn’t set correct for 2gb sticks in the bios. here is how it should look.
tRFC 105ns 512Mb 127.5ns 1GB 195ns 2Gb recommended with AM2/AM2+ sockets anyway. Also what is your memory rated at voltage wise? my experience tells me that if you have 1066 your memory is probably rated at 2.1v, but you should check that. From my understanding 1066 isn’t a JEDEC memory spec, so when the bios looks for the spec it sees ddr2 800 as the spec and sets it to that. I understand this happens because the required voltage is beyond spec, it is usually somewhere around 2.1v for 1066. So find all the specs on your memory, it is usually on the box that the memory came in, sometimes there is a sticker on the side of the stick with this information as well. You should see something like 4-4-4-12-28 these are important. They are specific for the sticks rated speed. In your case your rated speed is ddr2 1066 or ddr 533 however you want to think of the speed. I created this document for myself. It might help you it might not. http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink If I were you I would drop my memory speed from ddr2 800 to 666 or 533 rated speeds, this will help remove your memory from the equation for instability, (still adjust your tRFC though). After you figure out how far you processor will go, then you can start adjusting your memory specs back to their rated. Another suggestion is to use AOD AMD OverDrive http://www.amd.com/us-en/0,,3715_153..._15359,00.html to overclock, sure its not bios overclocking, but the nice thing about it is that if you push your parts to far, its reset to normal when you restart. Thus you don’t have to continue to reset the cmos. In the upper right hand corner of AOD is a green button, this is essentially enables and disables amd cool and quiet. this took a while for me to figure out. anyway I hope this helps Last edited by fsjis1 : 4 Days Ago at 11:32 AM Reason: Clarification |
