My friend just built his new pc and he is going to try and unlock the 4th core and he also wants to overclock.
__________________I know how to unlock it and overclock it, but mine never got unlocked and i heard that when you unlock the 4th core your sensor gives you bad readings. Will that make it harder for us to overclock because we can't read the temperature? How bad is it? is it just off by like 10?

I have the 550 BE and I don't think it's always necessarily wrong - what I noticed was that you only have the main reader (entire chip)...but you lose the ability to see the individual core temps. If anything though, comparing the readings from the 550 BE to my 940 BE - the whole chips seems to be 3C less than the individual cores as a rule of thumb. So - see what you're reading on the chip - and add 3 C to guess at what the individual cores are running.
I used hardware monitor - it really will be essential in trying to overclock these. Mine seemed to run great once unlocked - I didn't notice too much extra heat. Good luck.

try monitoring the both temp (core+cpu) before you try to unlock it. Once you have unlocked, you will not be able to monitor the core temps.

When you unlock the 4th core, the core sensors will not read at all. You have to use the sensor under the CPU socket to estimate the core temp, which is generally 5-10C higher.

I found with my unlocked 720 BE that AMD overdrive would read the temp as -100 + degrees
The bios sensor was stuck but Everest would still read all the temps correct.
