Since I plan to get an Athlon II X2 or X3 in the future, and I've seen this mentioned, how would I go about unlocking the L3 cache (if they have one)?

I responded in the other thread.
Enable ACC in the bios. If there is no ACC option then it's not supported by the chipset or you need a bios update.

The Athlon II X2's are native duals The Athlon II X3/X4's are quads with no L3 on die.

![]() I was under the impression that they already used up all the spare denebs for it and are on real propus cores now.

There's nothing to unlock on the Athlon II X2s.

Because the guys at AMD are geniuses, if a core doesn't work, they take the CPU, disable the core, and sell it at the next lowest level, no wasted materials, and they make a profit.
X4 -> X3 -> X2. So an X2 could actually be an X4 that didn't perform up to par for whatever reason, yet could be fully functional. EDIT: Wait, just read up on it. The X2's are native duals with 2 x 1MB L2 cache, instead of 3/4 x 512KB. Quote:
