Default Safe OC for a 6400+ BE?

I'm pretty new to this business but i got together a zalman 9700, 4 case fans and a north bridge fan and set about an overclock. Im aware that this chip doesn't have a lot of headroom so i'd like somebody a bit more informed to confirm its safe to run at these clocks.

asus crosshair
6400 BE
250 gts sli
ocz reaper ddr2

Idles at 37 degrees and will sit at 60-61 runing orthos

214 x 16 @ 1.5 vcore (3424mhz)
cpu<->MCP55 X5
NB<->SB HT speed x5
DDR2 voltage @ 2.125v
DRAM timing @ 5-5-5-15-23

Temps are high, but safe. Voltage is high, but again, I'd say it's relatively safe.

Nice OC.

Nah thats what it says in the bios, 1.44 after vdrop. My only concern is when the two graphics cards kick in at 100% it might raise ambient temps slightly.

What program are you using to monitor your temperatures?, 60c is quite a high temperature considering your using 1.5v on the CPU, I'd back the OC down abit and stay under 55c load or get a better cooler, high temps + high volts = dead CPU.

Aye was kinda thinking that, im running orthos now monitoring with speedfan. I dropped the multi to 213 now @ 3407mhz and the vcore to 1.48v. Temp is now hovering round 58-59.... that a bit better?

I'd recommend using CoreTemp to read the temps on your CPU, you should get more accurate results, but yeah 58/59c is slightly better, but still a tad too high, but Orthos/Prime 95 stresses your CPU alot more than gaming/general tasks, so I guess you'd probably be ok.

I would opt for a better cooler

AMD says not to push past 63C and i am inclined to agree

I suggest you sell the one you have now and pickup an HDT cooler with a nice high CFM fan you shouldn't lose more than 15$ and you will have the headroom to run 1.5V

Downloaded coretemp as advised and both cores are at 59. This gives me a 2 or 3 degrees before i run into trouble? Ano that zalman isnt the most effective cooler but the cpu temp dropped about 7 degrees after installation & damn does it look good

The max ''safe'' temperatures AMD specified are actually 55-63c here , now you need to remember you have an overclocked CPU, which has much more than stock volts being pumped through it, so I wouldn't really recommend going any higher than you already have, you're already pushing it.
