Default AMDs Athlon II X4 620 - yes or no?

How about this CPU to replace my Athlon 7750 (not the black edition), 2.7Ghz.

Would I get a noticeable improvement in my PC?

Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H. I assume the CPU and board are compatible.

As far as I can tell / read, the Athlon II X4 looks great value for money.

I guess it won't be quite as simple as this (nothing ever is) but would a 2.6Ghz quad core be almost twice as quick as a 2.7 dual core?

Opinions, comments very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

ok well them phenom II mirco procers are faster clock for clock than the orginal Phenom proccesors, so yea it will be faster clock for clock, also you have 2 more cores.

So yes good upgrade though if you want to overclock i would strongly recomment the 720BE for 20 more dollars

Thanks.

Is my mobo compatible with both CPUs?

I think I'm a little confused as to types... are there just 2 - AMD and Intel - and a mobo will work with one or the other?

Snag the latest BIOS, flash it on, and go get an Athlon II X2 620.

Yes your mobo is compatible and the processor is great for the price. Only 5% slower than the Phenom II's clock for clock and it's an AM3 chip.

After you get it, join the club for overclocking help and socialization about the Athlon II X4's
