That's what I was thinking and the BFG guy did say something along the lines of the memory might be trippin or something. I didn't really listen to him too much. Once he said "OK let me give you an RMA#" I was like "Score" and didn't pay too much attention to what else he had to say.
So yeah, I'm coming to you live from my rig with a backup PCI card.... damn it lags but it works and that's all that matters. You think I can OC my CPU like crazy with this PCI card? I might as well try it.

GUESS WHAT??? Well I booted to 2.8GHz no problem but like 2 minutes after that I was moving some stuff around in my case so I could get the door to shut so the fan would point towards the RAM better and ZAP I fried the PCI card!!! I accidentally touched it with my Maze4 that was just dangling around in there. I smelled something burnt so I reboot and sure enough everything beeped like it's suppose to so the computer works (weeeew)... but the PCI card is dead, damn that must be a new record! I'm gonna go back to Fry's after I eat dinner and get me another one. I know, I'm a walking disaster so I wrapped the maze4 in an anti static bag so it doesn't happen again.

But anyway, 2.8 on 1.56 vcore without distortion WOOT!!!!! I'll be updating my Project San Diego thread tonight with screenshots, benchmarks and such.

geez man you were going to RMA a card because you were oc'ing your system? anyway, doubtful they'll accept your core as you have modded it and voided your mfg warranty.

i've also fried something because it was dangling, a 30G drive a couple years back, luckily I had an identical one so I could just swap the controller card from the good one to read off the failed drive. I'm not leaving stuff dangling in the computer anymore

Yeah well I do learn a lot of things the hard way that's for sure. But they did accept my RMA (scroll up) and I haven't modified anything that I couldn't put back to stock... which I did. I'm getting good at these RMAs now. Anyway I'll keep you all posted.

Trans, sounds like you need to figure out a way to physically clamp the RAM sinks because the adhesive is known to crapolla with the heat. The 2 on the left have 3 well located holes in the PCB but the 1 on the right looks like the 2 holes are in poor locals.

... and that does sound like a overheating problem, the graphics going funny.... you try running it at the lowest possible clock speed to see if that resolves the problem? if so then you need better heatsink contact.
