Default My (Late) AM2 Build [Check it for me!]

OK, I am buying three things: CPU, RAM, and a motherboard.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Updated
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A-DATA Extreme Edition 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2800 - $49.99
BIOSTAR Tforce 560 - $79.40
Athlon 64 X2 5000 Brisbane BE - $129.99

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A-DATA Extreme Edition 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2800 - $49.99
BIOSTAR Tforce 570 SLI - $87.99
Athlon 64 X2 5000 Brisbane BE - $129.99

I am just looking for any concerns over my RAM and motherboard choices.

P.S. The timings on the A-DATA are pretty good. Check the link.

I would not buy that memory.... get tracer Ballistix with D9 memory that can be overclocked to 1000+ mhz! Mine is running stable at DDR 1168Mhz !! 5-5-5-12-23-2t 2.2 stock volt

I'd go with a 5000 Black Edition instead, it'll overclock higher for less money

Also avoid the 570 chipset like the plague. I'd go with this

ASUS M2R32-MVP AM2 AMD 580X CrossFire

I believe the description in the OP was a typo as it is linked to the X2 5000+ BE and there is no X2 6000+ Brisbane, BE or otherwise.

Agreed. Avoid the n570 chipset if you plan on doing much overclocking.

Also keep in mid that having a Black Edition CPU with the unlocked mulit is all well and good but if your motherboard and or BIOS does support said unlocked multi it is useless. Having said that most major manufacturers should have a BIOS update that will allow you to utilize the unlocked multi if possible.

The Biostar 560 A2+ is about the same price,, AM2+ update able and good OCer.
The Ballistix at this time is not only good stuff, but about $42 after MIR.
No knock on the AData Extreme, it too OCs rather well and uses the D9s, but with the MIR the Ballistx is less money.

Indeed it was a typo. Thanks for catching it.

(Stupid laptop keyboards.)

Anyway, I was looking at the A-Data because of it's price and timings. I'll check into the recommended RAM. Anyway, I wanted the Biostar 550 but I couldn't find any on sites I have used before.

I'll check into it all and revise my choices if need be. Thanks!

P.S. Expect an update in this thread. :P

Edit: I was also hoping someone could let me in on whether the Biostar's support the BE's. Thanks.

I changed the motherboard in consideration due to concerns over the nForce 570. I was originally lookingat the Biostar 550 SE but I couldn't find any of them in stock and one (licensed online retailer for Biostar) supplier has them listed as discontinued. So I chose the 560.

While I would get the Crucial memory that has been recommended, it is a $70 value into mail-in-rebate, while the A-DATA is $50. Then again, they estimate the A-DATA won't be back in stock until the 10th which may push me down the path of yet another memory.

I am still looking for opinions. Thanks.

Edit: I am also trying to stay with BIOSTAR because of the good things I have read about the 550 and 550SE. (I don't need SLI.)

PQI Turbo 2GB Kit DDR2-800

They have a Cas Latency of 4 instead of the 5 that others have in the price range, and they seem to overclock well based on the latest review. I have a PQI Turbo DDR set in my main rig and they are high quality, and the customer service is great too.

HEEEEYY!! That hurts my feelings....... I dont think its that bad. Granted im having the smallest difficulty getting 3.0ghz outta my cpu, but i dont think its the chipsets fault. I wonder why everyone thinks that the 570's are pants on head retarded.

but i will say that the layout on the board makes it impossible to reset the cmos jumper seeing how the jumper is located directly under any video card that is longer than the PCI-e slot. seriously thats a big problem and i would love to slap who ever designed it that way. the thing is what a 1/4 inch? they couldnt find anywhere else for it???

I'm leaning on the PQI purely because it's in stock. The A-DATA has gotten up to almost 1100 on it's factory timings (4-4-4-12). The latest review of the PQI says he got 960 at 5-5-5-5 and low voltage, but I would like to know if it comes close to the A-DATA at higher voltage.

Edit: The A-DATA I quoted as being highly overclockable was a single stick. I'll have to find the review but I don't think it references the one I question in this topic.
