Looking at the OC 3dmark06 leaderboard, my results are on par with everybody else.

Nothing in my system shows any errors. Everything is installed correctly. Everything seems ordinary.

Wow. I get just under 12K with a 2900pro 512mb. I never really looked at the numbers, but I would have thought the 8800GT 512mb would blow it away. Granted, this is only 3dmark06 and not a game or something, but still.

I use windows vista, which is half the problem. Probs the reason you get more than me is you use XP.

I also had kaspersky running on my first couple of runs, so i think that impacted on my scores.

Ive turned off search indexing, and got rid of a couple of useless startup programs since. Im hitting at about 10144 with what I have.

The only other thing i could think of is possibly the dated BIOS on this board holding the rest of my stuff back.

Ok, im really stuck with this issue. Ive got everything plugged in that should be, and im running all the latest drivers.

Ill check for any loose cabling or chip creep in a bit, but i would think that might cause crashes more than low performance.

my pcie lanes are running at 100mhz, so thats ok.

If anyone has any other info that could be of help, i would be very appreciative, cause this is bugging me

Do you have the pro version of 3DMark06? Because if you do, run the test for each component separately. Find that "sweet spot", as the higher the overclock doesn't mean it'll score better. I get an extra plus of 20 to 40 points just finding the right ratio (that's a big boost for this slow computer).

Ultra overclock here isn't what's important, the ratio is.

Secondly, unplug USB devices and use a PS/2 keyboard and mouse. USB can affect the overall performance (just unplugging the game controller upped the score a little). That's often missed.

What resolution are you gaming at? The higher the resolutions, obviously the harder your system has to work, no matter how powerful your components are.

Also, the stutters might have nothing to do with your system, but with the game code itself. One possible way to test: Try gaming at less than maxed settings; if the stutters still persist, it's likely a software-based issue rather than your hardware.
