Default Loop Boot

I have been having major issues with my computer.

I had a virus on my computer and I was able to get rid of it using active pro scanning. Everything looked to be all good but the comp told me I needed to repair because some system files got messed up. I repaired my partition but thats where the real problem started. Once it restarted... a loop started. Right after the screen where it recognizes that it did not start regularly and u can either choose to have it start normally or on safe mode, it restarts to the beginning. I don't know how to fix it. I really want to avoid reformatting.

I did the CHKDSK and there were no errors...

help? please?

lildrummerboy09, what kind of "repair on the partition" did you do? Did you boot directly to the XP cd and run the repair option? Your right though, sounds like the anti-virus software also removed some of your system files along with the virus(s).

Let us know

Good luck

Archangelabove, well in his case he may have had a rootkit virus which almost always will hide itself in the registry. So his AV application probably deleted some registry entries that were also part of the OS. That's kind of what I think...

Lildrummerboy, what you suggest his possible but be careful. Your current HD could still have a virus on it. When I perform data recovery, I almost always boot to a Live CD to run my data recovery tools. The files are typically saved to a network drive or to a USB connected device.

Good luck

Go to windows repair and type /fdisk mbrfix or something along those lines. It fixes the master boot record.

I did both of those and it didn't fix it... any other ideas?

I was able to save some files using ERD. So it is not AS big of deal to format... but I still want to avoid it...

Are there any other repair commands that might fix it?
