Cool Build me a $500 linux compatible rig!

By linux compatible I simply mean the nic has to be supported. I believe these days most nic's are but theres the occasional one that doesn't. If you don't really know this or whatever, still just build a rig and I'll figure out if the motherboards nic works. I want something real nice and I know its possible, I built a $300 one before. (Dual core 2.8ghz and an 8600GT mind you). I prefer everything to be done through NewEgg and I do not necessarily need a case but I do need a PSU and NO OS.

Thanks guys.

Thanks for your input but I decided I need a case and such so I put this build together.

BIOSTAR TForce TF8200 A2+ AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 8200
AMD Athlon X2 BE-2400 Brisbane 2.3GHz
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB
CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX 450W ATX12V V2.2 Power Supply
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel
SAMSUNG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA
XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler

Which came to $485 after shipping and taxes. I am so annoyed that NewEgg now has taxes in NYS because now the prices are near the same as in store retail and sometimes higher. Anything I can fix, change, or make better? Im willing to max out at $520 total after shipping and taxes.. Anything I can cheap down so I can add a video card rather than use an onboard..

Everything looks solid to me, that cooler is a bit overkill but w/e.
I would have started with a 780G, but ATi and linux grind gears sometimes so the nVidia chipset is probably better.

Looks far, far inferior to the one I linked. Do you really need a DVD drive? Mine had a very decent DX10 graphics card in it as well. Your choice but that AMD CPU is junk.

Yours was better but I actually do need a hard drive case and cd drive. I am trying to do this cheaply but solid.. Can someone make me a build for $500 including shipping and the system be a full system with everything but mouse, monitor, keyboard?

what benefit would an Intel CPU make for him, other then make for a tighter budget for the rest of his build?

Incorrect. That CPU would actually perform very well for his needs. Why get a more expensive product to make life harder. That CPU will be fine.

Please dont be a fanboy.

You might want to try the for sale section for a hard drive and cd/dvd drive, that could save you some money and will be just fine with a used one.
