cheers for the info, im not holding my breath on the my mobo getting a bios update for the 9850, ive been reading and some people can run them on it and others are having there mobo's nuked by it, so il take the safe option and go 9750/9650.

My refresh rate is 60hz, games like moh:a and stalker i have vsync on, but when i turn it on in cod4 (im guessing it is the sync every frame option?) it tends to stutter really badly, not as in fps wise, but movement etc. And the boat level after the training... ive hit under 60, and goes as low as 35 sometimes? This is with the texture settings on extra, i was assuming i could run cod4 without it dropping below 60 lol. Maybe i have a conflict somewhere, im not sure. But as before, the 3dmark score seems right for this system.

edit: running at 1680x1050

The stuttering you describe is exactly what i was getting in Bioshock before I upgraded my CPU. I had everything on high and was getting about 25 FPS in the first scene (plane crash). Everything moved very jerkily (not slowdown, but movement shaking, like you said). I had to turn all the details way down to get it to stop. After the CPU upgrade, I'm able to run everything maxed at 55-60 FPS constantly. I cannot overstate how important the CPU upgrade was. Think of any gameplay problems you have now and I'm almost sure they will be cured by a CPU upgrade.

I've reluctantly selected "Audiophile" as my user title. I am a lover of audio, but there is a stigma of ignorance and unscientific fantasy that surrounds that word. If you are an audiophile who believes the nonsense Stereophile and company would have you believe, do some scientific research and reconsider your positions.

cheers, the only thing is, the stuttering only occurs in cod4 when i turn the vsync on, if i turn it off and let the fps bounce around from 100+ to 40- then theres no movement stuttering or anything... I will upgrade my cpu, im trying to rma this one haha.

Shat, to be honest a processor upgrade would help but it wouldn't show dramatic results. I'm still gaming on a 4+ year old processor and I can still play Bioshock, COD4, Race 07 and TF2 on practically all high settings with at least 2x AA. I have zero problems with stutters and frame dips.

In short, V-sync matches your display's(LCD screen) refresh rate/frequency with your games frame rate. I'm guessing with V-sync enabled in COD4 you were maxing out at 60FPS. Also I can't remember exactly, but there is a setting in COD4 that can be disabled which should help your frame rate. I ran into this issue when I started playing the game a while back. It helped out a lot.

Good luck

right... i seem to have cured the stuttering on cod4 with vsync on, i remember hearing a while ago if you enable dual video cards even if you only have one, it fixed various stuttering problems... seems to have worked now. Or it could be because ive overclocked it back to 3.0ghz, the frames havent dropped below 60 yet, but im only on the boat level. il do some more benches...

Shat, check out this review of quad cores vs dual cores: http://www.guru3d.com/article/cpu-sc...e-processors/3. Hopefully that can shed some light on your question. Make sure to check out all the games. It appears the difference is almost based on which game you're actually playing.

Good luck

erm sorry for this... but do you think maybe an x2 6000+ would be more beneficial than a 9650/9750 phenom?

Shat, more "beneficial" in terms of what? If your running an application that utilizes all 4 cores then I would say yes. According to that review from guru3d, the performance differences in some games were almost not even noticeable. I haven't tested a Phenom yet so it's really hard for me to say. I wish I could be of more help in that area.

Good luck
