Xsabrewulf, it could be possible that you have a failing drive. What brand/model is your hard drive? As suggested already, if you have Seagate drive then please download the Seagate Seatools. You can download those by going here: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/sup...loads/seatools. If you have a Western Digital drive then you need to download the Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tools. You can download those by going here: http://support.wdc.com/product/downl...&sid=3&lang=en. The WD diagnost tools is a small download that can burnt to a CD as a bootable image. There should be four options, Quick Test, Extended Test, Write Zero's and View Test Results. Please run the "Extended Test".

Please do so now and let us know. Do not run these diagnostic tools within Windows.

Good luck

xsabrewulf, it looks to me like you've got a HDD on its last legs. How old is the HDD in question?

At any rate, it's prudent to start backing up everything valuable on that HDD. Per the quick research I've done on these error messages, it's a question of when (not if) that HDD will finally kick the bucket.

Hope this helps.

I ran a cleanup program called Advanced Windowscare V2 personal... is this a good program? I just went on a limb and had it clean everything

It is good to a point, but sometimes those type of programs like Advanced Windowscare V2 can harm the computer system tools. It had happened to me before and I could not use Windows and had to reformat.

Try what Thinker suggested. Though 3 years old drive should still be ok to me.

Xsabrewulf, did you run the extended test using the WD Diagnostic tools? This is a sector by sector scan. I recommend performing this just so we can rule out a "bad" hard drive.

Good luck

Frankly, it's more likely the disk problems are caused by the crashing, rather than being the cause of the crashing.

Latty, performing a diagnostic(surface scan) on the hard drive would still rule out a bad drive. The process of elimination is lengthy but can be rewarding

Good luck

Xsabrewulf, your machine should not be locking up during any type of hard drive surface scan. That could either be a sign of a bad drive OR perhaps the system itself is not stable during the diagnostic. Have you physically reviewed your motherboard to see if any caps are bulging/leaking? Look at the caps especially around the cpu socket.

I'd also suggest testing the rails on your power supply. If you have a multimeter laying around this can easily be done. Check out this guide found here for the proper procedure.

Let us know

Good luck
