Default random lock ups

I can not figure this out.

I did memtest+ and no errors

I have put my OC back to defaults

It will lock up and the IO will lock up too... just random

even when nothing is going on... if I leave my PC idle overnight come back to the PC, it will be locked up.

I will be just browsing google and it will seem to freeze... after 10 secs it will be good for another 10 secs then freeze for good.

any ideas? I am ripping my hair out...

when I try to boot up sometimes it will show the windows loading screen and no HDD access....

same thing Ubuntu and opensuse as well...

I have recently had ram go bad and replaced it with OCZ plats x4

How long did you run memtest for? It needs a decent run. Other than that, I guess the next thing to do is to try and isolate a component - as it happens cross-OS it would be a hardware issue.

Your gonna have to what lattyware suggested and try to isolate a component as the cause. Its not the memory at least, 8 hours of memtest probably woulda caught it. Try a HDD checking program. Seagate offers SeaTools on their site and WD has their own program on their site. Try one of those and test your HDD for errors.

I doubt it's the hard drive, as you wouldn't get total freezes. If it were graphics, you'd expect some artifacts as well, RAM, memtest would pick up... I'd say could be your CPU.

What about PSU?

It's very odd like lastnight I played a game for 7 hours and no lock up...

I reboot my PC today... after 15 mins it locked up.

it seems that the program I am using locks up for a sec... then I can click on the start button and it shows then like 2 secs after it locks up.

CPU you say?

- What is the best tool to scan my HDD (besides scandisk?) WD has lifeguard tools but that does not have a disk scan just format options and view what type of harddrive you have

I don't know man. The Seasonics tend to be pretty reliable... It could be it though, have you got another you could test? I think the only real way is to replace components until you notice a difference.

TuffTest does a great job. I'm not sure if you can get a free version of it but it's a great bundle.

Update:

After it locks up... i reboot like 5 times it shows the windows loading screen and just stops loading (although the loading animation keeps going)

After about 5 reboots it does a disk scan and i get

about 200 Corrupt attribute record

and about 200 recovering orphaned file

could this mean anything?
