Sunrex, did you run into any more cold boot issues? Is Gigabyte going to go ahead and allow you to RMA the motherboard?

Good luck

Got the RMA confirmed. Now I just have to ship it to them. And no, I'm still at the library . I'll move it upstairs before shipping it out to see if it helps. If not, onto the UPS store!.

Edit: Shipped. Changing to another room did nothing to help, even upstairs. ETA to Gigabyte is the 21st. I hope gigabyte will be kind and rush it, so I get it back on the 23rd to 25th. But, I likely will get it back on the 27-29.

Heres hoping it will be fine! (And... rev 2.0... that black heatsink just shouts "BUY ME")

Mmm.. interesting.

Upon trying the HDD with my socket 754 MB.. (I also had to change the heatsink since the coolmaster fan was pretty much dead.. some... 300 or less RPM. I replaced it with the AMD heatsink meant for AM2, and its keeping it at 30-40C.) I got no errors like I did on the gigabyte MB.. none.. I did get the boot menu for safe boot and normal, but thats because the HDD is already corrupt from before. Still... no kernel errors, no anything.

Upon trying to boot up, I got a blank screen with a mouse. Repair could not repair - must have been very deep corruption.

I'm reinstalling vista on the socket 754 board *Snickers* I wonder how the cpu will do.. haha. Speaking of socket 754, whats the max anyone overclocked their CPU?. I managed to get my sempron. uh... 2000? 3000?. Something. To 2.5Ghz before.

Want to know the real funny thing here?. Upon looking at the BIOS screen SMBus CNTRL 11. The one on the Gigabyte board was SMBus CNTRL NA.. Likely was my entire problem.

Yup. Just another daily update!.

Sunrex, the Sempron 2800+ were nice OC'ers but then again it's purely luck and as always nothing is guaranteed in overclocking. What Sempron processor are you currently running? Did you end up sending the board off to Gigabyte?

Good luck

Read my post above, edited it. (Not the one above your post, the one above the one above your post :P.) I've had that edited for a day or so.

Nevermind. It's not a sempron. AMD Athlon 64 3000+. Clocked at 2.0Ghz at 1.5V... and apparently, either the voltage is not enough or I really killed this processor. It's not exactly stable.

Also, this just REALLY made me mad. Vista rates this processor as a 4.0... um... so my dual core 6000+ is only 5.4?... yeah, its weird.

No other note worthy issues yet. Other then one of my ram sticks was halfway out and I didn't realize it until I checked task manager and it showed 512MB ram rather then 1GB.

Did another cold boot on the 754 board, no corruption.

Increasing CPU VCORE to 1.6V increased stability, but not by much. I'm going to go as high as 1.7 before underclocking it.

Sunrex, don't feel to discouraged. The 3000+ Clawhammer wasn't exactly the best of OCer's. I remember playing with one at work when they were first released. Stock voltage is 1.5 volts so that is completely normal. I had a look at AMDGeeks.net and the average overclock for this particular processor was about 2.5Ghz. Most of the voltages were around 1.6 volts. Make sure you also adjust your memory divider and that you always test for stability first.

Nice to hear you're not experiencing the same data issue as you were with the GA board.

Good luck

Upped to 1.640V. I'm fairly confident the VCORE was nothe issue, but rather the memory voltage. Running stable at 2.0Ghz now.

Another cold boot (left off most of the night) no data corruption issues.

Sunrex, is there a reason why you're running such at high Vcore at stock speeds? The 3000+ Clawhammer/Newcastle calls for just 1.5volts. Unless it's a Venice S754 which is just 1.4volts.

Good luck

Nope. I just haven't done much with this computer, I'll start OCing it in a bit.

Can I contact you directly?. Say MSN messenger?. Got internet back... (Comcast apparently raised my bandwith to this: Download Speed: 16727 kbps (2090.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 8847 kbps (1105.9 KB/sec transfer rate)... still not good enough to keep me with them rather then verizon fios, since they cap it at 200-250GB per month).

Anyway, yeah. No word from gigabyte yet.

Edit: Also, either this heat sink does a REALLY good job or the sensor is not working right on the CPU. It's showing 36C at all times, even under full load. Thats during the day. At night, it goes down to 34C.
