Default Just wondering with an AMD based system

Let's say if I buy an AMD based computer with an AM2+ or AM3 board and couple with a Phenom or Phenom II, would having an ATI graphics card be better than an Nvidia?

Normally, I'd say no, but I haven't been following up on AMD until the recent Phenom II hype that has been going on. Since AMD got ATI, I can assume that somehow their processor and ATI graphics can help to deliver better performance?

Also, I heard of this thing called "Fusion" not sure if it's a processor or some new technology. Can someone tell me what "fusion" is all about?

In short, no, neither will be better, unless you want to run Crossfire/SLI.

True, unless you're going to run X-fire, or SLI, it shouldn't matter.

Fusion is a few different things. Ultimately, fusion is going to be the integration of CPU and GPU (like a dual core CPU, combined with a dual core GPU). THere are more details floating around out there... but this one gives you a pretty good idea of what Im talking about (or just google AMD fusion).

Fusion is also a driver related thing. you can download it, and it will remove some background services, to get better FPS in games.

hope that helps out

As far as which GPU(s) to pair with an AMD system, I do not reccomend SLi because SLi boards do not have the almighty SB750. Without the SB750, and no ACC, your overclocks will not be as high as with an AMD/ATi based 790GX or 790FX/SB750 motherboard.
Even considering, for a single card, go for an AMD/ATi based motherboard with SB750.

EDIT: Thank you Logan for helping out explaining fusion.

Thanks guys for the responses

This will really help me if I pursue going Phenom II instead of i7

Actually, I think nVidia is coming out with a chipset that has the ACC feature.

790FX has four pci-e x16 2.0 slots that can all run at 8x for quad-fire. That means you can have four cards, each with the full bandwidth of pci-e x16 1.1.

I dunno how that compares to X48.

I was in a hurry towards the end of my last post, so I forgot to get the link the AMD Fusion (the utility)... so HERE it is, if any of you are interested. Apparently its good for a few FPS, in games, and might help you reach that benchmark goal that you've been trying to hit.

Also, nice post Kamikaze127 +rep for the good info.
