Darn, I need to do it again to get a screenshot .
Do we need to post a 32m pi run and/or a 3dm06 run before the contest is up, or only in the case of a tiebreaker?

Honesty and integrity are the foundations i was created from, in some sleazy hotel bed with a red light peircing the passion within.

So yep i have a good camera and can post any pics you need. As people stated it's about integrity most of us no doubt have some fancy cooling we could easily rig up i'll be sure to stick too the rules. aircooling only

Let me locate a NB cooler first as it's one of the things i wrecked once i had removed it. Noisey blinking thing. If i can't find a passive NB cooler it's pointless.

You only NEED to do it for a tiebreaker. To do it otherwise is bragging rights.

Are the yellow slots bad too? Have you cleared the CMOS a few times?

Most of us use all-air quite frankly. Like I said, I will defer to Txtmstrjoe as to what he thinks on the northbridge situation.

Winter Suicides
There's nothing quite like winter-time in the Northern Hemisphere. The days grow shorter, and the nights seem longer and darker than usual. The temperatures also drop through the floor in most places, as if Hell had frozen over. It's no wonder winter is traditionally associated with death and the end.

Most overclockers, though, would likely tell you that winter is their favorite time of year. Not only do they get PC parts for gifts from their loved ones (one hopes to get them, anyway), but the low ambient temperatures inspires them to push their hardware harder than usual. The lower ambients give us all a lot more thermal headroom, making us feel more at ease with hitting the thermal limits with our chips.

It is thus in this spirit that we, the officers, happily announce the OCN Socket 939 Appreciation Club Winter Contest: Winter Suicides.

The concept is simple: Whoever can hit the highest suicide overclocked speed wins!

The trick, of course, is getting there without wrecking anything.

Rules: Competition
  1. Since this is a Skt939 Appreciation Club contest, only Skt939 Appreciation Club members may participate.
  2. Quite simply, achieve the highest possible overclocked speed of your Skt939 CPU.
  3. The chip must be air cooled. No water. No ice. No LOX. No dry ice. No LN2. No phase change. You get the idea.
  4. Earn a CPU-Z Validation Link and a Screenshot of the CPU-Z Program Window (CPU Tab) and post both in this thread; obviously, these two should match within acceptable HTT fluctuation .
  5. (NEEDED for TIEBREAKER JUDGING, but OPTIONAL otherwise) Run and pass the 32M test on SuperPi Mod v.1.5 (available here if you do not have it); ensure you take a screenshot of the successful 32M run AND post the correct validation checksum. The time for the run is not dispositive of the winner.
  6. (NEEDED for TIEBREAKER JUDGING, but OPTIONAL otherwise) Run and pass 3DMark06's Default Test once, then take a screenshot of the end of the successful run. This means even if you have the trial version of 3DMark06, you can submit this test. A validation link is nice to have, but is not required since it requires a paid licence for 3DMark06. The score for the run is not dispositive of the winner.
  7. At the end of the contest, the fastest suicide speed wins subject to judges' verification.
  8. The Contest shall begin on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2008. The last day to submit a suicide overclock for the contest is January 31, 2009.
  9. This contest shall be held in Pacific Standard Time [UTC -8].
  10. If the judges believe a contest extension is warranted, we reserve the right to extend the contest duration one time, and one time only.
  11. Overclock.net, the Club, and its Officiers shall not be held liable for any damages, real or otherwise, incurred during a member's contemplation of this contest[/B].

Rules: Judging

  1. Contest judges are Blitz6804 and txtmstrjoe. If they have issues with rulings, they will consult and defer to an undisclosed third judge.
  2. There will be two categories: Single-Core processors and Dual-Core processors. The rules are identical for both categories.
  3. Club members may run up to one processor in each catagory.
  4. If a member submits a dual-core processor, THAT MEMBER MAY NOT WIN THE SINGLE-CORE CATEGORY.
  5. In case there are ties in the highest clock speed (measured to the hundredth of a MHz), we will use a three-tiered judging method by which the winners will be determined. First, the tied members shall post a screenshot of their successful 32-million-digit run of SuperPi and the correct validation checksum in this thread. If there is more than one rig capible of completing the run, the tied members shall post their screenshot of a successful 3DMark06 default test run. Finally, if there is more than one rig that can run 3DMark06, the system running the lowest VCore as detected and posted by CPU-Z will win.
  6. In the event none of the tied overclocks can run SuperPi32m and 3DMark06, the winner will then be determined by the fastest suicide overclock (amongst all entrants, not just the entrants who tied) that can successfully complete both SuperPi 32M and 3DMark06. In the event of a tie then, the lower voltage reigns supreme.
  7. All results are provisional until the judges finalize the results and declare the winners. Judges' decisions will be accompanied by detailed explanations in case the tiebreaker protocols are employed.
  8. Judging will take as long as necessary in order to determine a fair winner, id est, there is no time limit for the judgment to be returned at the conclusion of the contest.

Prizes
  1. The winner of the Single-Core CPU Category wins one of Joe's spare AMD Opteron 165 CPUs.
  2. The winner of the Dual-Core CPU Category wins a 2x1GB kit of performance RAM (which specific set has not yet been determined at this time).
  3. There will be a third prize to be given to a random participant. Each member can only win one prize; the winner of the raffle must be unique.
  4. Winners in the Continental United States need not pay for shipping for prizes. Overseas winners need not pay for their prizes, but Joe's generosity is constrained somewhat by his limited wallet capacity. Accordingly, overseas winners agree to pay the shipping charge for any prizes they earn.

Notes
  1. Part of the motivation for this contest is, of course, just the camaraderie we hopefully feel when we participate in a common event. Hopefully we all have fun in participating in this contest, and that we have a great turnout.
  2. Joe has been quite fortunate to have amassed a good stash of spare parts, and many of our members do not have that capability. So, if you wish, think of this as a holiday gift to three deserving Club Skt939ers who contribute to the Club and to OCN. In particular Joe is thinking of helping out Skt939ers who do not have the means to do dual-core, or to someone who is held back by poor RAM. It is, in a way, "wealth redistribution" in action.
  3. Our Club Officers are welcome to participate, but they are ineligible to win any prize other than bragging rights.
  4. All contest-related questions and concerns should be confined to this dedicated Contest thread.
  5. What else is there to say but good luck to all, and please do not break anything!
  6. This post will not be edited in any way, shape, or form for the duration of the contest. All entries shall be consolidated in Post #2 by Blitz6804. The entries represented therein are merely preliminary until the conclusion of the contest on January 31, 2009.
Count me in, I'll suicude the p1ss outta my sig, see how far I can go. Winter rules!!!

Regarding the question of whether or not any components on the system can be cooled by something other than air (specifically, chipsets), since the chipsets also get a thermal workout during overclocking, anything other than air cooling for these is forbidden.

If there are further concerns or questions regarding regulations, please post them here.

Thank you.
