Default Need to downgrade: AMD or Intel?

Turns out I've been unemployed for about a month and I need to sell my Core i7 setup that I just got, which is quite unfortunate.

Therefore, I'm looking to downgrade. I have an E7300 on the way as the result of a trade and I have an Asus P5K-Deluxe lying around on the Intel side of things. I've had a quad core for almost two years now though, and I'm not sure how much of a downgrade I'll see.

Although, prices on AMD quads are dirt cheap (See: Newegg $85 9600). I don't really know the first thing about AMD though, so that is why I come to you all for advice.

For optimum price/performance here, should I stick with the E7300/P5K-Deluxe or should I sell them to fund a cheap AMD Quad-Core build.

Thanks in advance.

I'd stick with the E7300 and P5k-Deluxe. I'm running a similar setup now and very happy with it. You'll be able to OC the thing really well. The AMD chips just don't OC well and are quite hot and just don't do all that well in the benchmarks.

Sorry to hear this. E7300/P5K-Deluxe is still good. I am sure you can get something ncie from AMD but seem to stick with what you have is better for now.

Yeah, I've seen some people have been able to overclock the 7300 up past 4ghz, which sounds intruiging.

I also know that games like Fallout 3 and GTA4 are actually using all 4 cores now, but I'm not sure to what extent.

you can get a 720be for $145, easy to overclock and it will certainly outperform any c2d out there, especially in games.

then get a 790gx board
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130191

or this board if you want to use that ddr3 ram of yours
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131366

and lastly buy 2 of these and crossfirex them to get a 20% faster performance than a 4870, and you could even overclock them to a 4850 speed to get a 4850x2 performance since sapphire has the best cooling for that model.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102803

the whole thing would cost about $500

the remaning parts should be easy, and it's up to you. you should be getting a gaming performance better than your i7 setup. and there is no way an intel is getting near that performance with the same budget range or even the more expensive, let's say e8400/8500 for overall performance.

cheers

You should be fine with that downgrade. I too have seen quite a few people get to 4ghz with even the E7200. Hopefuly that board can handle a high FSB. Sucks you lost your job, good luck on the search.

Oh yeah, don't get a Phenom 9600, they are crap, run on B2 stepping. I ran into a bad batch, third times of RMA charm to get one to work. Even when I got a working one, it overclocked 200mhz max.

funny how most of the responses in this thread came from Intel users, even though we are in the AMD section.

Anyways I would just stick with the E7300 because that's what you have.

Just because I use Intel does not mean i'm a fanboy or with one specific side. Ive had 4 AMD machines and 3 Intel machines... Price/Performance right now is going to be Intel.

yeah. but the p2 i think just changed the tide. well at least with every single chip that it's being match. of course we all know that the i7 is simply unrivaled atm. but you can't deny the fact that a lot of reviewers are totally hooked with the p2 chips especially those new X3 chips
