the gaming performance will be about the same but for other stuff... well, let's just say it will be a long time before you need to upgrade

I vote Phenom II. Unless you are heavily into CAD, Encoding and etc, you will see little or no benefit with i7. Hit up the Phenom and Overclock, you wont be dissapointed!

Also this board, is amazing, dual bios is a life saver when overclocking. UD3 keeps it very cool(my antec 1200 might help that) running my BE @ 3.2ghz stable with just the multi @ 15, and that was hard to do on my k9a2 stable.

Intel fan boys clear off. He's in the AMD section for a reason. Looks pretty good to me but I would go with 2x 4870's over a single 4870X2.

a 4870X2 is faster and leaves a slot open for 'quadfire' later on

Honestly, why upgrade. The computer you have is already quite the build. If I were in your shoes, I would probably throw that money in a savings account, wait for all the new stuff to come out over summer, and spend less money on more power.
There should be some interesting stuff to come out, like Nvidias new gDDR5 memory that will handle up to 7ghz, and be cheaper to build than some current gDDR3.

the i7 is a more powerful processor, i dont care how you want to pretty it up, or say that its only useful for multitasking blah blah blah. the i7 is more powerful clock for clock. its been beaten to death tiem and time again, so im gonna let you take a look at one of the more popular reviews of the 940 vs the 920 and see for your self: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...m-ii,2119.html either way its going to be a powerhouse, but if your looking for longevity, and outright power, the i7 is the winner hands down. and for 70$, why the hell not.

The x2 should be faster because of the built in X-Fire processor, instead of using the link
