Default PC Freezin

Hi, I built my PC like a month ago and recently it has been freezing at random times, the only way to free it is to reboot. I first reset all my overclocks to default and started it regularly. After an hour of browsing the web freely the cursor locked up on the middle of the screen and the music i was playing continued for 30 seconds then started skipping. I heard it may be a overheating problem. I havent played any games today so my PC shouldnt even be in the position to overheat. So i installed Speedfan and this is what i got.

EDIT: it just froze again while i was waiting for a reply. The Vista circle was still spinning but my cursor was not moving.

Did anything change that you know of? When did it start happening?

Did you try virus scanning, checking for driver issues... a system restore to before things freaked out... checked the event viewer?

Just throwing out ideas, as right now, its kinda hard to pinpoint this on anything. It seems software related though, since the temps are fine, and you're not getting any signs of failed HW (unless its the ram... speaking of which, did you try memtest?).

Sorry to hear that you've had a bad experience with your build... but I would at least try to figure it out before you throw in the towel.

Good luck

LOGAN TO THE RESCUE!

Well I do know that it did not do this before I installed Vista. I installed vista like 2 weeks ago. it worked fine for those 2 weeks until like 2 days ago. Ive got to go to get some blank CDs unless i can do a memory test without Iso mounting. Secondly, I have bitdefender and ran a scan that resulted in nothing.

EDIT: I run my PC all night like I did my last 1. When im working on my PC it freezes within an hour of use (it just did it like 10 minutes ago) but when i wake up in the morning my cursor is fully functional so it must unfreeze after a certain amount of time.

Try running the virus scans and whatnot in safe mode, as lots of virus's like to hide behind windows services, and safe mode leaves them out in the open.

So it sounds like the system is busy trying to do something, rather than getting a hardware problem. I say this because apparently the problem "goes away" after a certain amount of time, which if it was a hardware issue, shouldn't really be the case.

What does the event viewer say about the problem, if anything?

And yes, You'll need to make an ISO of memtest to run it... which will require a CD. I really think that the problem is windows related though... weather is a virus, and IRQ error, or a driver conflict is still unclear, but I think we'll be able to shut it down.

Good luck

Well, have you looked into the motherboard? My 780i would freeze in the exact same way yours does, I found out it was the bios on the mobo. So I flashed to newer bios and viola its fixed.
