BIOSTAR TFORCE TA790GX 128M AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $104.99

SAPPHIRE 100259L Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail $164.99

KINGWIN ABT-730MM 730W ATX / BTX SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply $69.99

AMD Athlon X2 7850 Kuma 2.8GHz Socket AM2+ 95W Dual-Core Processor Model $69.00
It looks like a pretty solid build although I'd spring the extra cash for the 710 ($119 shipped). Reason being is that the Phenom II's are actually a new architecture (K10). Where as the previous, like that kuma, is the old architecture (K8). Basically, theyre the same as my 939 chip with the exception of the memory controller which supports DDR2 instead of DDR.
Aside from that the 710 is AM3, so if you want to upgrade your board/RAM later you wont have to buy a CPU as you'll be able to use it on AM2+ and AM3 boards.
The 512 should be ok for your uses, although keep in mind that if you upgrade to a larger resolution it'll struggle which is where you'd really want a 1GB card. But if you're not planning on going any larger the 1680x1050 you should be ok.

For his uses an i7 would be no faster than an AMD and cost considerably more.

There's no actual evidence here... well I've seen some benchmarks where they turn on AA and the thing falls flat. Other than that, no. It's just not right that's all

Phenom II should be called Ph II, not a P II because it isn't an old Intel

It was reported that in December 2006 AMD/ATI, along with its main rival NVIDIA, received subpoenas from the United States Department of Justice regarding possible antitrust violations in the graphics card industry.

So I went out and did my upgrade today :-) Got a Am2+ 790GX board, a 512mb 4850, that kingwin psu and a 720 BE ... ok now here's my issue. I haven't ran the updates on vista, fresh install. But when running lotro, the video just freezes then scrambles. Then I have to reboot :-(! Think running the updates will help or is this card i bought the issue? It's an HIS btw. Always had good luck with um in the past. BTW went to Microcenter total cost 450$ with 100$ in mail in rebates. Lovin it.

If you haven't updated to SP1 do so, I've heard that SP1 took care a lot of compatibility issues.
Also make sure you have the latest driver for the 4850. Good build solid budget gaming rig
