Ok first, I'm a noob and I speak french, it's Grim who tell me to go there.

For 800-1000$ US, what can I have for a new computer and what are the benefits of building my own?

what are you looking to do with this? you want more processing power or gaming power? Benefits of building it yourself? Cheaper and if a part crashes you can replace it

If I where you I would not buy a computer from the store. They are not gaming worthy they usually have 250-300 watt Power supplys and a cheap/custom Micro ATX motherboard with 1 PCI-E slot. Benefits to building your own is you actually know whats inside of it and know the perks of what you got and you can make one faster for cheaper. But if you want, you can buy some HP computer and put a 4850 or something in it..it will barley fit..but it will work. (In most) but since you have $800 you can make a killer build..and with $1000 you can most likely make a decent i7 rig.

Premièrement, beinvenue à Overclock.net!

Well the biggest benefit is that you get more for your money since there is no one in the middle to mark up the price.
