Default Advice pls on what OC parameters to change ?

Hi

I tried to do the OC through Bios , but at first it changed back to same values, i disabled CnC and set the multiplier, but there is also another setting below Frequency NB Multiplier , do i need to set that on the same value ? I saw a screenshot where these values where different .

After tryin to OC with AOD, i see about 6 parameters to change in the voltage section.
I changed multiplier to about 18 till it didnt lock up, then i tried upping the FSB slowly, but it kept locking up, so i guess adding voltages is in order, but i see so many slide bars, and i dont know what voltages to change best, or in what degree ?
Any advice on that pls ? thx

Don't use AMD Overdrive, EVER!

I am very familiar with that motherboard so I will try to give you some tips. Go into "Cell Menu" and set your memory timings and voltage respectively. Then set your CPU voltage to about 1.4v. Leave everything else on auto besides your memory and cpu voltage. Then increase your multiplier to about 18, 18.5, or 19. There you have a good overclock with little hassle. If it is unstable, you can always back down on multi or add more voltage, but I think it should work with the settings I mentioned. And keep everything else on auto

ok thx i will try that later when i get home. The thing is that in the BIOS i still find it difficult to know how to change things, i cant change voltages anywhere, as they are in grey and i dont know how to acces the values, and i get confused when i see more voltages, like VDDC ? and NB HT etc.

Leave everything on auto except CPU voltage and memory voltage. Use the "+" and "-" keys on the keyboard to adjust the parameters.

a bit disctracted by the high temps of my GPU but i try to move forward.
New Cooler for GPU coming so.

i started with some OC

still i would like to know what parameters i should be adjusting and which not ?

i get bit confused with the names,
so CPU VDD is the basic voltage of the CPU i should raise eventually ?

and what about the

CPU Voltage
CPU NB Voltage
NB Voltage
HT Link voltage

also do i need to adjust the CPU NB Ratio at all or leave on auto ?

and what about the FSB/DRam Ratio ?

sorry for the many questions, reading and reading but still these issues ? thx

You only need to touch other parameters if you are unstable. NB voltage and CPU-NB voltage will help for stabilizing the ram (small increments) and allow the CPU a little more headroom to be overclocked.

Make sure you're using the newest bios of that board, I'm not sure how well it unlocks, but I don't think it is that good yet. Go here and flash to the beta bios included in the thread it should help for stability. Flash on fail safe defaults so you don't brick the board.

ok thx, keep losing faith when each time it fails, but will make a new effort , i guess it takes time to find the best stable config ?

and Bios wise i think i am fine, got the latest so..

How are you sure your 4 cores are stable? Not all of them can unlock... Run prime95 small fft at stock 3.1ghz with 1.4v to see if it is actually a 4 core unlockable. If it fails, throw the idea of having 4 cores out the window and just overclock with the 2.

Just because that version of the bios unlocks it, doesn't mean it unlocks it properly. I read the earlier bioses don't unlock very well, and 1.8 is the first bios published on msi's website that unlock cores, so it is very new. Trust me, the 1.9 beta bios will be better for you. Get it from the link I had provided in the previous post. Or you can wait for 1.9 to be released on MSI site but I think that will take a while.

edit: if you feel uncomfortable flashing to a beta bios, then you don't have to I'm sorry for pushing the idea. I hope you get everything stabilized but even if you can't get a quad core I'm sure you'll be happy with a 4ghz dual

ah yes i never thought of first doin a stability test on base defaults 3100, and indeed 2 cores on 4 Mhz stable is fine by me.
Ok i didnt know that Bios was even newer than mine, so yes i can try to do that, i am not real worried of flashing so.
thx again
