Well what I found when planning my next upgrade is that there is a huge price premium between the two company's in the high end area. I'm not saying it isn't worth it, if you have the funds then go for it. But from Intel mobo and cpu's to AMD's mobo (chipset) and cpu's the price premium for performance parts is huge, even to the tune of $200-400 Au.

A huge margin? Please.

Just because the i7 can calculate pi faster doesn't really mean it's that much more better at games. I mean most benches show that. Sure I won't deny that it's a better chip but honestly i'm sortof tired of the synthetic tests.

Intel is releasing the i9 first quarter of 2010, or there about. It will be a 6 core processor. Also, 2 new 45mm Penryn chips with 8 cores, and 16 w/ HT are being shown off in demos by Intel.

Edit: Sorry to be the only Intel guy coming in this thread. I genuinely respect AMD. They definitely have a better price/performance than Intel. And I find their GPU's superior to nVidia.

The i7 is a better cpu, period. The Phenom II's are excellent cpu's and most people wouldn't need the power of an i7. If you can afford an i7 rig by all means get one, but I can't so I get the best I can afford.

I would rather to have AMD always behind Intel, so we all can get good chips at cheaper prices.

I only say mind numbing because on a site geared toward performance your Pooh-Poohing of AMD's past performance accomplishment seems well as said. Better on a marketing site. Not one that tries to cut to the chase with facts. I have been around for a while. I am glad AMD woke Intel up, if they had not god only knows where Intel would have taken us.

I really am not impressed with Intel being a Goliath, I am troubled 75% of your argument/opinion seems to think that is cool? I accept it is as you say but don't give them credit and want to anoint them as anything. If you do cool.

What Intel has done to get their leap in market share was by no means cool. It was sad, that they had to lie and cheat to get ahead.

I'm not an Intel fanboy by the way. I prefer AMD for most things.

When AMD has more market share than Intel, AMD will be top dog.

You must have missed the point a few posts ago where I said that AMD was kicking Intel around during the netburst days....

Also really I would have to say the i7 920 is about equal to the Phenom II 965 really the 965 beats the 920 in almost every game. But in regular PC applications the 920 wins. So im thinking if Intel dosent have a 6 Core CPU when AMD has theirs AMD might take the performance crown for a bit.
