Just a quick chime-in from someone who owns plenty of gear from all sides. I sold my QX9650 and bought a 955 and 790 AM3 board, and have been very happy with that decision. Top Dog is purely a benchmarks game, whereas both make gear fully capable of maxing current software with no hiccups.

Better Market utilization
Better Software Optimization
More income for research
More income for expanding the company

Put 2 and 2 together. I don't see how it's mind numbing. It makes sense.
Intel also has the most market share of the GPU market.

(No joke. Look it up yourself.)

Well, market share aside - I think today is a day we can officially say that AMD is top dog.

It has some top positions in the supercomputer list - and is certainly turning heads..

http://blogs.computerworld.com/15102...l_its_official

Also note the Chinese defense computer with 2500 4870 X2's...... (besides impressing, is no one scared of the implications of this??)

That coupled with the fact that AMD has Nvidia beat hands down for 2009 due to DX11 being out with 5800 series and Nvidia is nowhere in sight...

Yes, today AMD is top dog....won't last forever - but us AMD fans should be impressed with these results...

look at the total amount of news stories today about the super-computer list:

I think AMD needs triple channel memory support to really compete with intel. Unless I'm mistaken and amd has boards out that support it, cuz if so, I'm so saving up for it.

even if amd makes an 8 core desktop cpu it would still be no match for intel.
What amd needs is to make faster dual cores. I would prefer a 4.0 ghz dual core than a 2.5 ghz quad core anyday

I got mine for $115, but speak of the devil at $123.

You're boasting that your board is capable of quad-fire @ x8 or crossfire @ x16 yet you only have a single 4870. Congrats.

My board will tri-fire @ x16, which would probably scale better than quad-fire @ x8. So what's your point?
