BTW, did you upgrade RAM, CPU and MOBO JUST for boot times? poor decision there but hopefully you do some gaming or other tasks that will take advantage of the new hardware.

I did not really upgrade my mobo/ram/cpu for boot times. My DELL pc was crashing occasionally with BSOD despite reinstalling windows and drivers.

So I thought I should get a new one or upgrade. I thought to go along with mobo/ram/cpu for a nice overhaul of the system. I used back my SATA 1.5 harddrive.

So in my mind, I thought I had quite a new build and my PC should definitely feels faster. But its not true. Bootup time is still slow, opening applications such as open office still take the same time. Thats why I start to doubt if its a worthy upgrade.

You made a small upgrade. As a former Dell owner, I can tell you, the fact that you got away from their proprietary hardware was a step in the right direction. Now you can decide what goes onto your mobo/into your system...not Dell. Plus, you'll pay tons less for parts than you would buying from Dell. That's how they get you; low priced pc's, high priced upgrades.

#1 Clean up your HDD for now. As was previously and rightly stated, a fresh install is always a good idea when changing rigs, it's also a good idea to do it once every 2-3 years if you don't really keep up with disc maintenance using a program like Tune Up Utilities 2009. Back up any important files to a serperate partition, or burn a couple of data DVD's and do a nice clean install.

#2 Look into oc'ing the chip a bit. Doesn't have to be anything major. Just get it "optimized," for lack of a better term.

#3 Save up for a new HDD. The guys are right, a new Caviar would be a good improvement and show more speed. Even though Dell's are mostly packed with Western Digital drives, they are not always the very good ones. And 3 years is a good run for an HDD...think about a new one down the line.

#4 You RAM, get some faster RAM, RAM is so cheap right now it ain't even funny. DDR2 can be had for pennies to the dollar what it cost just 2 or 3 years ago. 4 GB of fast (cas4) 800MHz RAM will really speed things up.

Now that you have a mobo you can work with, you can make upgrades in increments as long as the components are compatible. Good upgrades for a "daily user."

Edit: missed the 4GB of 800 in your op...tighten it up as much as you can....lower the timings or raise the megahertz....

***Fill in your system specs as best you can in the Users Control Panel so people can make suggestions more accurately for your specific hardware.

Thanks for the advice, how much do I lower the timings or raise the speed for my RAM? Where do I check the limits?

You need to seriously read about overclocking and understand it.

This. Read through some of the sticky/5 star threads in the memory section...the AMD memory section. Get a handle on the timings and what they do.

It'll take some reading and tinkering after you get started but it's worth it. You'll see what I mean once you feel ready to get your hands dirty.

Even as an every-day user, you have to understand--that's your computer and I'm not saying you have to become the next Bill Gates or anything, but, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with your hardware. Learn at least the basics about it.

For now, read read read.

When you're ready. Post in the AMD memory section.

Good luck bro. It may seem daunting now but it actually isn't.
