Reformat if you have not done that all ready. I would say virus. And a Phenom slower than a P4 pfft my dual core felt loads faster then my p4. I had my p4 until last sep I know long time. What is with the video card? I had better onboard when I built my old system.

Lissa, the above is actually a great question. What tools or methods are you using the measure the performance of the machine? What exactly seems "slow" to you? As mentioned already did you perform a clean installation of the operating system after installing the new hardware.

Good luck and welcome to OCN

Take out the 2x 1gb sticks of ram, then use Driver sweeper to clean out old drivers then install new drivers. Also try defragmenting your hard disk. also go to task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) and at the bottom of the window it should tell you the number of processes.

I cant believe no ones asked this but, what are you useing to designate "slow as molasses". Have you run a single benchmark? Have you encoded any video or run a game or two? how about a memtest86 to make sure your dimms are good? Basically WHAT feels slow?

On-Topic: Reinstall OS, and take out the 2x1 GB sticks.

Also, what feels slow is probably the boot up, how fast programs open and such.

I had that 9600BE and i got to tell You it's a piece of crap :/ It was slower than my X2 6000+, my old 4870 was bottlenecked by this CPU. I think You should change this CPU to Phenom II X4 (920, 940) they are much faster, even with clock to clock. First generation of Phenoms are BIG AMD FAIL.

Lissa, I'm glad that helped out a bit. With all of that memory you would benefit quite a bit if you were to go with a 64-bit OS. Windows 7 64-bit wasn't all that bad when I played with it. I had a few issues with sound card compatibility (driver related) but I wasn't too concerned. It might be something to look into. In any case, if you're not running any applications that require a lot of memory then I wouldn't worry about it. Do you know if you have a B2 or B3 revised Phenom I processor? This information can be retrieved by running CPU-Z. You have a great board so the overclocking potential is there. Sp4wners has a great point on the processor though. Phenom I's weren't really all that great of overclockers. Performance was also negligible but eh it's expected from newer tech

If you have a small budget and are looking for something a bit snappier have a look at the Phenom II processors. Your board does support them so you are good to go.

Good luck

Maybe it has something to do with the TLB fix for the older Phenoms. I think AMD mentioned something about decreasing performance by ~10% to address the stability issues.
