Default Quad core slower than my p4 single core
help! want to overclock, no clue, this new quad core pc is slower than my p4 single core! under the hood..phenom 9600 quad core, biostar tqa790g xb am2+ board 2x 2gb 667 and 2x1gb 667 ddr 2 ram256 mb pcie winfast graphic card 1 terrabite hd...Slow as molasses!
built hundreds of pc's but never really got into overclocking. Any and all suggestions on how to up me up appreciated... i guess i am a real newbie at this part of it and do not want to train wreck!

Comparing processor speed to viscosity of mollasses is a strange thing to do. How does one test that?

Anyway, how is it that you know your Phenom quad core is slower than your p4? What are you measuring?

Look for overclocking guides for your motherboard. It looks like you may have mis-spelled your motherboard model so we can't really help. In the mean time, definitely explore your motherboard's bios to see what user-controllable options are available.

WELL, I AM USING XP MEDIA CENTER EDITION, 32 BIT, AND I DO REALIZE THAT WITH THIS SETUP, UNLESS I AM USING 64 BIT SYS, ONLY A PORTION, LIKE ABOUT 3.75 GB OF MY RAM WILL BE UTILIZED EVEN THOUGH i HAVE 6 GB RAM. WHAT OTHER SYS INFO DO YOU NEED TO KNOW? EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT REALLY A GAMER, WILL OVERCLOCKING HELP ME DO GENERAL COMPUTER WORK FASTER?
