Hi,
__________________I want to overclock my computer, however, I'm not able to find the options in the bios which allow me to change the clock rate. Perhaps my bios doesn't allow it or something. My CPU is an AMD Athlon XP 2500+, right now at 1.8Ghz. And the bios which I'm having trouble navigating is Phoenix - Award BIOS v6.00PG I thought software might be a better way to go to change my computer's clock speed, so I gave AMD Overdrive a go.. Apparently it won't even start on my computer. So.. I was wondering what other ways I could go to overclock my computer? Thanks.

Very old cpu now, I use to overclock these via pins and jumpers on the motherboard.
I could set the fsb to 200(default 166) and it would then show up as a barton 3200+. I have no idea if you have these options on your board.

Yeah, I've had this computer for quite a while.. It's stuck with me through thick and thin.. It still runs pretty darn smoothly.. almost like the day I got it.. so many years back. haha
__________________Anyway! In the bios, I do not see any options with FSB on it.. But I do see some frequencies , 166 Mhz. However.. It's grayed out so I can't select it. Is there another way through the bios to which I can change it?

Well I am guessing your comp is old and pre-built. Then I dont think you can OC(same with my dell piece of junk).

if its the 2500xp barton then u have an awsome chip i threw a ton of volts at it and had it post as a 3200xp with almost no problems ran like that for 2 yrs solid as a rock
__________________the best board to do this would be a socket A nforce2 asus a7n8x is a good one if ur ram is ok u can jack the fsb to200mhz and set the multiplier to 11 it will post still as a 2.2 ghz 3200xp but if u run a benchmark on it will be a hell of a lot faster then a standerd 3200xp witch only runns at 166fsb then after playing with the volts and ram timeings u can bring it up to 2500mhz with good cooling 500mhz oc is very posibel i finaly fryde my cause i was trying to get it to go past 2500mhz wich it ran stabel i got it as far as 2580mhz but it would lock up i gave it a bit to much juice and that was it for the board and the cpu good cooling and u can run it at 2400mhz and it will take it like a champ

Going Broke Overclocking
![]() |
Ah the day of the old Socket "A" Barton
__________________ As said, we need to know what MB you have but from what replies you've given, it's not likely an OCer. The grayed out FSB usually indicates it's not an OCer but... There may be a option like, "Advanced", "Manual", "High Performance" or the likes in the BIOS that must be enabled to attain access to the OCing aspects.

Ahh So many replies, so much help that's at hand here!
__________________I was wondering how everyone got one of those signatures lol Ok! I've filled it as much as my fingers want to go, if anyone needs any further details.. I'll be sure to add it. I've got a "ASUS A7V8X-MX SE" motherboard. Umm.. Is there any other way of overclocking my CPU without having to physically rip it apart? There must be a hidden option somewhere I'm missing..

Ar Shucks.. I will have a fiddle around with those options , but is there no other way to do it? Maybe a bypass program.. hack.. Or something..
