Hey guys.
A year or so back, my friend's parents bought a Gateway. I am not sure of the model, but I will look into it. For now, here are the specs: 640gb WD 2x2gb DDR2 (some cheap company) AMD Phenom X4 9100e On-board ATI Radeon 3200 DVD-RW drive Vista Home Premium Some random PSU Okay so here's the deal. A few days ago, my friend's mom was playing solitaire. She left, and the machine went to sleep. When she tried to wake it back up again, it didn't wake up. They took it to GeekSquad who said that her mobo was shot. She texted me and wanted to know what I could do to fix it, because geeksquad said "Your mobo is done, get a new computer and our warranty!" I offered to take it under my wing, and it is in my possession now. I got it, opened up the side panel, and hit the power button. Fans started spinning, the HDD spun up, and the CD drive started whirring. But, I had no video signal. My monitor's status light remained amber (Video connected, but no signal). I assumed it was an onboard graphics failure, so I took my card out and put it in their machine. again, no video. Thought it could be a bad DIMM, so I removed both of them and turned it on. Still no video. Removed the BIOS battery, and tried to boot. No dice. I tested all the leads on the PSU, and they are all good. Could this be caused by a bad processor? I don't have any AMD chips that I can test with. Even with a bad processor, you should get video right? Is the mobo shot? I think it is. I would like your input as to what the problem is, and how to resolve it.Also, If I have to replace their mobo, will windows put up a huge fight about it? I know linux wouldn't, but I have not replaced a mobo after a Vista installation.

Ok. Two thing it can be mobo (95% chance it is bad) or cpu (10% chance it is bad). So I would say mobo bad. You will have to reinstall windows.

I really think mobo, because there are no error beeps like there would be with no processor.

yeap sounds like a bad motherboard I would try and get a little nicer mobo while you are at it instead of just getting an exact replacement. It would probably be easier to reinstall etc.

I would like suggestions, yes. Its a Micro-ATX. They will not be overclocking. Only using 2 sata ports, and 2 ram slots.

Ah nice find dixson. Thats basically exactly what I was looking for. Now a question
Will I have to format and re-install, or can I just do a repair install?

Take it apart and build it outside the case. Put essentials in(CPU,Ram. PSU) see if it posts. Add hardware 1 by 1. Could be something as easy as a bad cable. Motherboards just do not go bad when computer goes to sleep. It is most likely something else but you cannot tell until you get everything out of the box. I laugh at the guys above who are saying mobo or CPU just on a whim. They have no credentials to suggest this without more information. It could be a bloody grounding out problem too. Take it apart and build it with mobo on a small box.
