I might be wrong, but I don't think you can unlock cores with a 770 chipset. You need the SB750 or the new 785Gs. I would go with the 550 and use the extra cash to get a better motherboard.

You might want to consider looking at the Gigabyte 790X or Gigabyte 790GX boards if you can.

The Gigabyte 770T-UD3P is a good board, but it's overclocking options are a bit limited. So it is a bit of a budget solution.

Everything else is good. 9600GT is getting kinda weak but it's not bad.

As for a sound card, look at the Asus Xonar DX or D1's

Hm what the wall that people hit with this board usually? Reason for this board to hold me over until the new 8xx chipset arrives.

I've had limited experience with it. (IE only a week or two total time)

But I had a major problem trying to pass 275mhz HT Clock on that board with a chip that can do 300mhz HT Clock pretty well.

With an unlocked multi it's not so bad, but it took more voltage for that board to stabilize a 4.2Ghz overclock, and it was generally just harder to work with than the Gigabyte 790X board.

The 770 has a sb710 which DOES have ACC if I'm not mistaken, he's fine on unlocking. I think it's a fine board choice, especially if it's meant to hold you over, but even if it weren't it's not a bad board. Tator, he already has ddr3 memory, so he'd have to get the 790xt, 790x is ddr2.

I'd also say get the 720, as less and less chips are unlocking now, for both chips, so might as well be guaranteed a tri, rather then guaranteed a dual.

If this is primarily for gaming I would just stick with a creative sound card. That way you'll get the full support for EAX etc. They aren't the best cards out, but they are the best gaming cards out. (Creative's high end cards are Azuntech, they are also full EAX supporting)

Yep, I just checked the Unlocking topic and that board is there with several successes. Learned something new.

Hmm yep for gaming otherwise i go for the Athlons ya still stumped about the 550 or 720. The 720 about 20-30 bucks more...I looked at the amd road map and fudzilla nothing new coming out soon lol BTW if i had enough rep I'd think my life would be a lot easier getting parts in the wanted section.

Edit: You guys don't think i'm abit late jumping on the am3 bandwagon do ya?
Edit: I'd get it if i still had ddr2 ram ha :P

This is complete false. Asus cards translate EAX into Open AL but you only need that in XP as Vista does not support EAX

not really. AM3+ (aka AM3r2) isn't coming out for a bit. And as for which CPU to get, the 720 is just a better buy IMO.
