Firstly, I would just like to clarify the following: are there issues with overclocking 4 modules as opposed to 1 or 2? Posts on Corsair's forums seemed to indicate so.
__________________I found a nice combination of 240MHz bus speed with a 15x multiplier for a considerable 3.6GHz overclock. The nice thing is that this bus speed also allows me to retain the stock 800MHz that my RAM and its timings were tested stable. When I played with other bus speeds and was forced to go higher than stock in RAM clockspeeds, Prime95 would give a fatal error in blend test within minutes. (For reference, these errors were thrown at 250bus/13x. I forget exact RAM speed, but it was 1xxx.) Now, on my 3.6GHz overclock and stock 800MHz RAM speed, Prime's been running over 2 hours now without a hitch. (CPU temps are at 60 degrees, but that's another story.) Is there any reason to overclock RAM that's already at such tight timings? If there is, how would I go about it stably? I don't need DDR2-1xxx that won't be stable. I'm already at 3.6GHz on my CPU and I really think that's about as far as I'm willing to go. Benchmarks ran it at 3.9GHz by upping the bus to 260MHz, but I'll hold off on oc'ing to that degree. How does RAM at lower clock speeds and lower timings compare to higher clock speeds and higher timings? (i.e. DDR2-800@4-4-4-12 and DDR2-1066@5-5-5-18) I think OC'ing for me has become more of a challenge to find stability than a search for performance. Extra clock speeds are nice of course, but the overall process seems to appeal to the OCD guy in me.

DDR2 800 4-4-4-12 and DDR2 1000 5-5-5-15 are pretty much equal, so you might want to stay with 800mhz and tight timings. Besides, it's harder on an AMD board to get higher when using 4 sticks of memory.

Going Broke Overclocking
![]() |
There were far great issue with the pre AM2 systems as to the IMC's ability to deal with more than 2 modules.
AM2 and later have a much better IMC but very large amounts of RAM can cause minor hindrances. As already stated, the timings will address any very minor issues.
