Hi everyone, im new to the forums and I am planning on building my first computer, as well as overclocking it. I've been doing a lot of research recently, ordering a dell 2209wa monitor so I will be gaming at 1680x1050 resolution. Decided to go AMD as i want to make it for sub 750$ (not including cost of monitor). Heres what I came up with (all canadian from newegg);
Coolermaster 690 79 ASUS M4A77TD Pro AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD 100 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16813131397 Phenom 2 550 Be 116 G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GBDDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 92 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820231276 Sapphire 5750 136 CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 80 plus 98 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16817139004 Western Digital Caviar Black 640gb 7200rpm 79 XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU 41 Total 751 Gave links for the ones I am unsure about--> more below With the new ASUS bios for unlocking the listed motherboard seems to be the cheapest one I could find that also has crossfire, as I plan on getting another 5750 in the future. I don't see myself spending another 40 bucks for 5770 when i've read the 5750 overclocks to about the 5770 and (although I haven't seen any benchmarks) i am guessing that 2 overclocked 5750's will perform as well as 2 stock 5770 which i think is more than enough for my needs at 1680x1050. i am worried about whether the power supply i listed will be able to accomadate overclocked crossfire 5750's and a possibly unlocked and overclocked phenom 2 550 (although the psu calcs I used said it should) Also would that power supply have enough connections to power everything as well as the s1283? ( i dont really understand all the connection stuff 12V etc but i plan on learning more soon), a more pressing problem is would all of this even fit into the cm690? Also, I don't know what ram to get but I think that the ram I chose should be fine as it says compatible with am3, and it has low timings. Thanks so much ahead of time! -Adad |

You should try this Mushkin Kit, G.Skill Ripjaws don't work well on AM3.

I thought 1333 was max for am3 (please correct me if I am wrong) so maybe I am better off getting
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820146868 as it has a rebate. Thx for the reply! |

Those Mushkin Blacklines support DDR3 1600mhz Cas 7 or DDR3 1333mhz Cas 6. Both are highly superior to Cas 7 DDR3 1333. And considering the similar price the Blackline 1600's are a better buy.

Get a 5770 instead of the 5750, definitely.
Other than that, you might want to spend a little more and get the antec 902 case. The price is great right now, just $10 more than the original 900

Also, if you are on a budget, you might want to consider this board instead:
Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P Though, you have a Phenom II CPU going into that board, so you'll want a board with VRM Moseft cooling, so I would look at these boards: MSI 785GM-E65 DFI LanParty Blood Iron 785G-M35 ECS 785GM-M Asus M4A785TD-V EVO ECS Black Series A790GXM-AD3 Foxconn A7DA-S 3.0 The bolded boards are ones I have used and recommend.

If you want to go super mega-ultra cheap, an ECS board will suit you fine. Although I don't know if they offer a Crossfire certified board. Hmm...
