Allright people it is a tough decision but i gave it already. Since LGA 775 is dead and Intel's Quads are expensive as hell i'll move to AMD.
My current setup: Intel E7200 and OCZ Vendetta Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 2x2GB OCZ Platinium 1066Mhz 4850 512MB Crossfire 500GB Maxtor hdd Recently i sold my CPU and planning to sell my mobo and rams too. With the money i'll get from the sales i'll buy these parts to complete my transition to AMD: Phenom II x2 550 BE Gigabyte MA790XT OCZ Platinium 2GB DDR 1333Mhz 7-7-7-20 (will buy another 2gb later) The thing is, i can buy E8400 right away but i don't wanna waste money on LGA775. It would surely smoke E7200 if i OC to 4Ghz but as i mentioned, don't wanna invest in dead technology. Some of my friends say i'm doing good by migrating to AMD and some say i can get better performance with E8400. I need opinions of people who have both platforms. Please it is urgent...

I'd expect the 550 BE would give you slightly better performance to the e7200 you have. Although, you could currently get a Phenom 925 for only $50 more. It's not a BE, but with a gigabyte board and temps you should be able to get it to around 3.6 without issue. Also, if you can stretch it, I'd get this ram. $30 more is well worth 4 gigs of ram.
__________________The e8xxx series does slightly better than the Phenom IIs in gaming, but since you can get a 925 cheaper than an e8400, I'd say the platform change is worth it.

I sold motherboard and rams an hour ago.Now looking for a 790XT mobo AM3 cpu and ddr3 ram. Thanks for the suggestions Thosesneakyfrench but i can't afford $50 more. My budget is so tight that i don't have extra 5$ to spend.
It's quite well to hear 550 BE is going to perform better than E7200. But i thought it could beat E8400 too. Because E8400 has 6MB cache and runs at 3Ghz whereas 550BE is a 3.1 Ghz CPU with 7MB cache. Am i missing a point here? And what are my chances of unlocking other 2 cores with this combination? I checked the thread about unlocking cores on OCN and saw a guy unlocked other 2 cores of 550 BE.He uses same board as i'm going to get which makes me twice as much excited! Is it true that unlocked cores will be unstable?

Kind of a sideways step, but since you are building new you might as well go Phenom II x2 555 and DDR3. The 555 should hit at least 4.2ghz on air and will pretty much be equal to the e8400, maybe slightly faster at that clock compared to a 4ghz e8400. Plus you get a newer platform, ddr3 ram, and more expandability I guess.
__________________If I were you I would've stayed with your old platform and just bought a q9550 after saving... You really took a sideways step and the difference between DDR2 and DDR3 is only noticeable in benchmarks, not everyday performance.

First, you made a good choice siwtching to AM3 from 775. I've used both platforms extensively, and IMO the integrated mem controller on the AMD platform behaves better in some game titles.
__________________My advice is to buy the cheapest AM3 chip you can find, the Athlon II 240 is 60 shipped. The reason for this is that the C3 stepping is about to come out, with lower TDP, and most likely better OC'ing. There's a LOT better chance of getting a 4Ghz chip if you wait for C3. Once you can pick up a C3 tri-core, sell the Athlon II to help pay for it.

And one more thing: Can i use my AM2 compatible OCZ Vendetta on AM3? Checked the cooler's manual but they only mentioned compatible wirth AM2. I think it's because AM3 platform didn't exist then.

Am2 and Am3 have the same mounting bracket, so your cooler will fit fine, and the 555 BE is coming out soon, with the major difference being a 3.2 stock clock.
__________________I'm also interested in when the C3 stepping gets released. If it's any time within the next month or so, I would suggest trying to sit on your money and skip on the athlon II.

There's a rumor stating that 555BE was suppose to overclock better than than 550BE. I waiting for it to come out and see if its true.
