Ok, I had a thread about this before, but here's a small update.
4gb g.skill ram (stock clocks) GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H Phenom II x2 550 BE (Stock clocks) Corsair H50 XFX 4890 3rd revision - fresh from RMA due to bad performance of 2nd revision Antec 650W Earthwatts Power Supply Whenever I play a game, it will restart my computer 10-30 seconds or so into gameplay, and sometimes during cut scenes. NOTHING is overclocked, and I've tried stability tests for the cpu and gpu (at the same time as well) with no sign of instability. I tried plugging my PSU into another rig with a 4.0Ghz Q9550 and a GTX260 with no problems at all. I was using Windows 7 and I JUST did a fresh install of vista 64 bit. Same problems ![]() I'm really not sure what the problem is. I'm thinking of going to microcenter and buying a psu to test on my system, since my psu has a 6 and a 6+2 pin connector (shouldn't be a problem and the 4890 requires a 6+8pin). Maybe it's my video card?

I would try swapping in a different video card if you have another one available. If it stops doing it then you've found your problem.

Your video card drivers or your video card is bad. I will say drivers.

It could easily be video drivers or something like that, but thats already been covered. And it has to be hardware, since it does it regardless of OS.
Have you run memtest yet? I actually just helped by boss at work with an issue that was intermittent (would freeze/BSOD when trying to run any graphically intensive game, but worked fine otherwise). It turns out, it was bad ram. The thing was, the ram wasn't bad enough to cause any other problems. Once we swapped in my sticks of ram... the problem went away. I'm not sure of course, but its worth a try. Also, I don't think it would be the PSU, unless its defective. That Earthwatts has enough juice for that system and then some. Good luck

It's LinX stable with max memory, but maybe I'll run memtest. How many loops should I run it for?
It is not video drivers since I've been from 9.7-9.10 with two operating systems.

IMO drivers are not the issue because I've never had problems in any Catalyst. Probably XFX and their infamous 4890s...

I would let it run through memtest 86 a few times, and after that, I'd run tests 5 and 8 a few times separately, since those are some of the more strenuous tests that usually give the errors.
I think it has to be hardware at this point, nothing else makes sense. Good luck man

Something is overheating. It may not be card it could be CPU also. Check temps at idle on both CPU and GPU and then check it quickly while you are gaming. Usually this is a sign of overheating not memory.
It could also be PSU

I tested psu on a system that requires more voltage so its not that. I stress tested video card with furmark and it didnt go above 70C and im sure the video card won't overheat after such a short time. This is definitely a hardware problem.
