Default Upgrading x2 to phenom, need help!

Hey guys,

Its been while since I have built computers but I need some help making sure my current power supply will be able to handle this upgrade.

My specs:
amd 6000+ x2
m2n - sli deluxe
visiontek hd 4850
2gb ddr 800 gskill 4-4-4-12 cas 4

Looking to upgrade to x4 940, I understand I will be choking the processor at ddr2 and the lower fsb but it's the easiest upgrade for the money until I can buy a new board.

my current power supply is:

I used to have a

until it died on me and had to pick the other one up.

If the thermaltake wont suffice should I buy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139008 ?

Thank you,
nesquik

Which revision of the 6000+ do you have? Is it the 125w one, or the 89w one?

If it is the 125w one, then you're power draw should be pretty close to the same, meaning, if your rig works now, then it should also work after the upgrade.

That PSU does seem a touch on the weak side though, and the part that scares me more, is that it does not tell you the amperage for the collective 12v rail... it just tells you the total wattage of the other rails (140w). So, if its a 450w PSU, then you should have about 26amps (310 watts) available on the 12v rails.

I think that it should work, but I might go ahead and get the corsair and feel better about my computer in general. A good PSU is important for the stability of your computer, and is often overlooked. Thats a good deal for that Corsair, I'd jump on it if you don't think that you're ever going to need more power for a bigger system.

Good luck
