Default Computer didn't start after attempting to unlock extra cores

Hi all,

I followed some directions to unlock the two extra cores on my Phenom II x2 550 BE using a Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H motherboard. In looking around the Internet, I've seen that a lot of people have been successful with this exact combination, but I couldn't even get the computer to start.

Here's what I did and what happened:

1) Changed EC Firmware Selection from Normal to Hybrid
2) Changed ACC from Disabled to Auto
3) Message appeared saying "BIOS is updating EC firmware...," then computer rebooted (normal).
4) After five to ten seconds, the computer would just shut off.

To get back into BIOS, I had to shutdown, remove the power cord, and pull the lithium BIOS battery. I got back in, restored my old settings, and was back in action.

Does anyone know why this happened and if I'm doing something wrong?

Thanks,
Chris

Your core is probably not good to unlock. You can add more CPU Voltage and try again, but you probably just have dud core(s.)

Maybe you just don't have one of the ''golden cores''.

Unplug the PSU, press the power button, plug the PSU back in next time you try.

Ahh, bummer!

Are voltage increases normal with this type of thing? I don't want to mess anything up...
