Default Christmas Build for a friend, comments would be appreciated

A friend of mine asked me to build a computer for his spoiled brat of a son. He's 12 and because he's using a crap Dell with a P4 and 8600GT he's getting a new one.

AFAIK all he ever really plays is CSS, although that might be because of his crap computer.

He isn't much of computer person, so we can rule out any overclocking, and he needs everything but the speakers.

This is what I ended up with:

http://secure.newegg.ca/WishList/Pub...umber=12310252

Newegg is giving 10% off of everything right now so it comes to just $940 shipped.

Not to bad at all really, will get him in on the action for a long time. The only thing I would suggest is maybe getting a 1080i monitor instead. I own that acer and it is nothing special as far as image quality, and one with a higher pixel count can be had for about the same price. That samsung is a single platter drive right? If not might consider one that is, only because they are marginally faster. Pretty good overall for the spoiled brat

Both the monitor and the mouse are really more placeholders than anything.

His room is really cramped though. His desk is actually underneath his bead, and there is less than 5 feet of clearance, so I didn't want to go too big.

I'll probably end up going with either a 21.6" or 23" Samsung from Futureshop, it really depends on the client.

I wanted the smaller screen size because he's not going to need or notice the extra space and the smaller size will mean better performance out of the video card.

He actually said I could go as high as $1500, but the parents are divorced and he's only at his dad's house 2-3 days a week, and I couldn't live with myself if I let a computer that good just sit there collecting dust.

Only LGA1366 is triple channel. LGA1156 and AM3 are dual channel.

thats a fairly solid build for the price, I love that motherboard, I have built atleast 10 systems in the last 2 months with it and never 1 problem. The CPU is the weak link if any but its capable enough for now especialy in a budget build. Id go ahead and spend a little more and get a PhenomII quad core over an AthlonII Quad, so much more performance and more Cache. Save yourself a huge bottle neck.

Ok, what I think I'm going to do is give him my e8400 + HDT-S1283 + P5Q + 4GB DDR2 + EA500 and order an i5 750, P55-UD4P, 4GB DDR3, and a 650TX and just pay him the difference.

Of course thats only if he accepts, but the way I see it its mutual gain here. A 4GHz(I'll probably drop it to 3.8) e8400 is going to be much faster than a 2.6GHz X4 620.
