Default How much is my Bottleneck?

running games on XP 32bit, Win 7 still is buggy with drivers.

AMD 9850 2.5Ghz STOCK i can OC it but how much is enough for the CPU not to bottleneck my Dual 5770s at 8x,8x.

now my bored fully supports AM3 cpus ( ASUS M4A78-E ) should i just OC my 9850 or drop the $$ for a AMD 955 ( which i can afford atm )

Also is it possible the 8x 8x crossfire could be holding back your cards a bit?

from what ive read the 16x, 16x vs 8x, 8x is not that big of a gap i could be wrong tho if anyone has more info please speak up. i can either buy the AMD 955 now. and skip next gen cpus until they are mainstream or OC my 9850 up to not bottleneck my cards ( still need the Ghz that would be enough ) and then i can buy AMD 6 cores when they are out ( i know i will have to have new Mobo and DDR3 for that but i should have that kind of $$ by then

IIRC, only GTX 295 starts to get bottlenecked at PCI-e 2.0 8x. If you are getting a new PII, might as well get the C3 stepping since it fixes some errata and is supposed to OC better and cooler.

What lelouche said. Hold off and wait for the new steppings to become widely disseminated. I personally plan to get a Phenom next year when I'm sure the 975 will be out.
