Yeah, running the mobo outside the case can verify if the case itself is causing electrical shorts or not.

One more thing you can do. It might be the ram because my ram died on me and my computer wouldn't boot up. Using "one" stick of ram, place it in each slot and try to boot up. Eventually, you'll discover which stick went bad, preventing you from booting up.

something to add - i thought that was my problem around a year ago, so i RMA'd my RAM, no fix. Turns out the board was the problem. Something to keep in mind.

Well I ran memtest86 the other day and both sticks passed. So I'm guessing that my motherboard is the problem.. Is there anything else that might be causing this problem?

Try switching to your onboard video. If still nothing, then it probably is your motherboard. My msi just died on me. No bios beep, no onboard video, nothing.
