We need to know a budget first. You could spend $600 or $6000

Here's my recommendation: X58 Chipset socket 1366
motherboard: Asus Rampage II Extreme (or get the little brother: Asus Rampage II Gene)
for $315 or $215 respectively
CPU: Intel i7 920 for $218
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5870 for $400 or HD 5850 for $310 or HD 5770 or HD 5750
memory: 3 x 2 GB DDR3 1600 MHz or 2000 MHz (aim for low latency and high bandwidth)
for $100-$250
PSU: 750 W - 1 KW for $100-$200
HDD: Velociraptor and/or WD Caviar 1 TB for $120
Fans: Scythe Gentle Typhoon

He said one that can:

So my guess is he's on a budget. Obviously don't need to go all spend-crazy in the thousands of dollars just to pull off playing MW2. Here's an idea for a decent mid-range gaming rig (just shy of $600), if you're on somewhat of a budget:

lol nice build for a decent mid-range gaming rig.
but why get a mid-range rig every 2 years if you can get a high-range rig every 4-5 years?

I would say that this build is the least expensive for you to build and still have upgradability and Good out of the box performance. But know that this is the least that you can do there is more.

Don't go with the ECS Mobo. Its not reliable. Go with Gigabyte AM3 or the ASUS 785 Evo or any of the 785 motherboards from ASUS. They are second Gen boards and are really inexpensive and very reliable. The 790 would be your best choice but sometimes that is over kill for some people if you don't plan on using muliple video cards.

Also the Black edition 550 Dually that just came out is just two cores of a PhenomII 940. I have it in a computer that I just built and it rocks.

Quad if you want to game, check you email, write a composition, and listen to tunes all at the same time.
